According to a colleague visiting from Hanoi, he said there had been a small fire in Nana Plaza but all was back to normal after a few hours. No evacuations or anything, people kept on drinking. I've looked through the papers and scanned the forum but see nothing. Maybe he was pissed??

I've always though that NEP was an accident waiting to happen. Electrical nighmare and far too many people in there, dispersed over three floors, to get out of that narrow entrance in a hurry. Doesn't stop me going there like but let's face it, you wouldn't design something that way would you. But then this is Thailand so, yeah well.

True for so many places in BK, Thailand, Asia...
Next time I will have a look around to have an idea about an escape route if needed...  Away from the crowd is always a good first guess... I would try to find out where the cats go LOL

Yes,I remember there was a blaze in Patpong many, many years ago, in which some girls who happened to be chained to beds at the time, perished in the flames.
The managers and owners of the establishments got sent down, it was reported. Who knows what money was paid for them to escape the glare of reporting.
But of course the farang customers who ran away with the keys and let the girls burn were never even questioned. I hope that memory is burning in their brains still.
And yes, it would come second-nature in the first few seconds to a trained guy, but it is good practice in any new, unknown place you enter, to establish the possible exits........................but, as has been pointed out, some of these death-traps have only one and the only alternative is over the roof to the next one, if you can jump it with a beer gut and a beer bottle still in your hand.
