Soi 0 or Buckskin Joe's is a great place to have a beer and a laid-back game of pool, with little or no pressure to BF or buy drinks. And, some real diamonds-in-the-rough can be found.
I used to go to Species bar to play pool, and ring the bell. Never more than 5 people there at once, they were hurting for business, and treated me great! Weird pool table, though - standard size, but with snooker pockets and full-size balls! Challenging, especially since one of the girls has the table wired - she consistently beat me until I figured out the roll...
Not a snooty-man's paradise, but fun when you want to play pool, and enjoy more down-to-earth BGs...

It's definitely low-rent, but has a lot of character. ÝI've seen some funny things there, too...the time a centipede emptied ALL the bars, girls chasing it like the villagers chasing Frankenstein's monster, complete with brooms, pool cues, and God-knows-what-else...I never knew they (the centipedes) could run so FAST! ÝNever had a chance, though...
The place is actually scarier in the DAY than at night...

Soi 0 is freakish, yeah. Under the freeway where normal countries store rock salt or throw away old sofas. I got the weird claustrophobia under there.
Something funny, not like fall down funny, but odd last time I was over there is that some of the shops farther back are all decked out to go. Pool tables with balls racked, liquor on the shelves, but a thick coat of dust everywhere and dirty windows. Like the owner just walked out one day and never came back. One of the bars was actually just sitting there open, but filthy, so there must be some security around.

soi zero is really zero quality!
might have some antique atmosphere when you are in the mood for a dark underground experience. may be some do get turned on by the cars of the expressway constantly buzzing over your heads.
for sure a place no halfway respectable thai person would dare to go, considering the insulot of people driving over your heads!
mind you they even block flybridges for the king when he is passing below them!
been there once for a look but i am not turned on by rattish, foul and piss smelling places with ugly chicks!
Have to admit that the occasionaly beauty might end up there and considering the cutsomers around one might be the superstar in shining armour there but as long as i can have that experience elsewhere too there is nothing to attract me there! may be when i am getting 60 y.o. and not hansum man anymore at my usual places i might reconsider!

During my first trip to BKK I was heading back to my hotel after a disappointing night in Patpong. I hopped off the skytrain at the Ploenchit station by accident and decided to hoof it back to NEP instead of reboarding the train. It was during this dark trek along Sukhumvit Rd that I first stumbled upon Soi Zero. It was an oasis of friendly activity after my humid, uncertain hike. I cooled off with a few beers, had a great conversation with a guy from Manchester, and played several games of pool with a sharp-shooting cutie. We got along so well I decided to barfine her. She got me back to the Nana safely and we ended up having a very enjoyable evening together. I now try to stop at Soi Zero every time I make the sweaty stroll from NEP to the Siam Square/WTC area. It's those unexpected discoveries you make when you venture off-the-beaten-path that are usually the most rewarding.
