I have been frequenting the Dubliner on Suk (between 24 and 22) quite a bit lately and I can’t but rave about it. Besides the obligatory perfectly poured pint of Guinness (with shamrock and all), the food is magnificent.

Everything I have had there has been better then any Western food I had had in Bangkok – including the stuff they serve in the 5-star hotels.

- The fish and chips -delightfully laid out on the plate as if it were nouvelle cuisine – with really fresh chips – is all a grown man needs after a hard days work.
- The garlic bread with mozzarella is simply delicious. I like it with some Tabasco sprinkled over it.
- The grilled bruschetta with tomato and cheese melts in your mouth. Great apatizer.
- Even the huge spaghetti carbonara (a bit off in an Irish pub, I know) was exquisite.

On top of that, most waitresses look almost as delicious as the food. Don’t know about *their* taste yet though. But I am getting there.

I can't understand the world's obsession with Irish pubs. It doesnt matter what shithole town you are in - in virtually every country - there is the ubiquitious Irish bar, complete with fake Irish artefacts, fake Irish accents, portraits of bloody WB Yeats and Oscar Wilde, and that godawful fiddle music which is about as authentically Irish as my arse.

At what point did the world suddenly decide that the Irish have a monopoly on 'fun' and having a good time. The last time I was in Ireland, I was bloody miserable.

Here's a thought. If Ireland is so great, why do all the Irish leave it?

Another thought. How many traditional Irish pubs are there in Ireland? All I could find were winebars to the new Dublin middle class.

Scobie,

Maybe you should take a trip to Bali and the Bush telegraph - could be more up your street. 55555

BTW, since 1996, there has been a net inward migration in Ireland.

Hehehehe. Sorry for the rant. It's a bit of a perverse obsession I have. I have nothing against the Irish, but I've always been amazed at how they've managed to convince the world that they have a monopoly on 'craic'.

And another thing, why is St Patrick's Day more popular in England than St George's Day. What is THAT all about?

Doctor.. where are my pills?

As for the Irish and craic i'm not really sure where that came from, I reckon there some clever marketing going
or maybe the lepricorns have been going round with thier spells.

As for St Partrick's day being more popular than St George's well St George was Turkish and didn't drink (it impairs the ability to kill dragons) so no one cares about him. And even St Patrick wasn't Irish, he was Welsh and his name wasn't even Patrick, although it is widely known he was anybody's after a few pints of the black stuff so I guess everyone feels entiltled to a piece of him.
