Closing in 18 months a bar owner told me. Soi 22 Queen's Park getting a lot it's trade apparently he says as well........maybe 20 smallish bars there. Nice atmosphere there.

I certainly agree with Waxhead's comments about sex tourism. There will always be some availability of sanuk, but it is better than this be zoned into special areas like Patpong where it does not detract from the amenity values of other neighborhoods.
What many of us oldtimers don't support though is interfering with legimate night spots by closing them down at 0100 hrs....way too early for chaps and lassies on the town.
Also the drug testing brigades visiting Q Bar and Bed give Thailand a very bad reputation. There's no other country in the world which would subject me to a compulsory urine test just because one happens to frequent a certain bar. Disgraceful! And I'm simply a boubon and soda man.

Clearly, you haven't been around much. You can have that experience in plenty of other countries, including the USA.
What's hurting Thailand's reputation more is the selective testing and harassing of mostly farang bars, while Thai venues generally appear to be left alone, or prioritized lower.

IMHO If you don't take drugs then there is nothing to fear or complain about. 
Anyone dumb enough to have taken drugs prior to visiting LOS or even stupid enough to take them while here deserves to rot in Hell... As in the Bangkok Hilton. f***em!
I have never been asked to piss into a cup but I would not mind at all. I am squeeky clean... Except for the beer stains on my T-Shirt...
