Well, I'm also from Louisiana and I second your comment about being able to do it better. However that isn't why I stay out of there.
Someone pointed out to me that while the US Embassy crowd patronize Doug's place, there is one group from out of that worthy edifice on Thanon Witthayu that does not do so, and that is the DEA.
The DEA do patronize the Texas Lone Star etc. but Bourbon Street is sort of offlimits.
That says it all.
Also, there is a longstanding emnity between Fat George (owner of Texas LS) and Doug (of Bourbon Street), over what I knoweth not, but I do know that when FG's place was still on Patpong, Doug was one of his managers.
As I am allergic to drug dealers, I take a hint when I am given one.
I have no evidence against the man, I'm not a cop so I don't need any. A hint is good enough.

Now, all this goes back to 94-95 and for all I know maybe things have changed, maybe the DEA now holds their keggers in Doug's back room, but if so no one has told me the coast is clear, so I just continue to continue, minding my own business and having to get my anduille sausage somewhere else, and blackening my own redfish if the mood strikes me. Tell you the truth I don't miss gumbo very much, when I was a kid in New Awlins I was obliged to eat all that shrimp and okra every Friday, good Catholics, no meat on Fridays, and all that claptrap.

Well well well, intresting, hint CJ, and thank you for sharing it with us. So as i've not yet been to Texas LS (actualy did'nt even know about it), and will most likely avoid Bourbon Street from now on, whats on the menu at Texas? Or is there another place you could refer me to, that serves our home style cuisine? Again thanks for that hint share. I saw that movie Broken Palace I think was the name, and I dont need to be around anything that will land me in that situation those girls were in.

I don't know any other place serving Acadian or Creole or neo-Acadian (a la Paul Prudhomme).
Texas serves good solid US dishes many of which are familiar to folks who ate a lot of meals in military mess halls -- chipped beef on toast aka Shit on a Shingle (SOS), tastes better than it sounds; chicken friend steak, ribs, etc and also a decent Thai menu and their prices are cheap. They have a FREE lunch 2 PM every Sunday which is a Soi 22/Washington Sq. tradition, almost all the expat places do, Doug has a free lunch that he charges a few hundred baht for, someone needs to explain to him the meaning of free...if you want to try the Sunday lunch at Texas Lone Star get there early as the place always fills up.
New Cowboy Bar also has a solid TexMex centered plus Thai menu that Bad Bob Bone (no, not Bad Bob the Albino, he was killed by Judge Roy Bean) put together and for many years Tuk Dawson, wife of Alan the infamous Bangkok newsie, cooked for proprietor Grant Francisco, the former fire chief of Danang and later ARAMCO. New Cowboy now belongs to Ivar and Jeb, but the kitchen is still OK. Their chicken friend steaks could use a tenderer cut of beef at the center, if it IS beef that is and not buff, and someone needs to tell the cook when it's time to change out the oil in the deep fryer, the pratties are tasting like they were cooked in bunker crude. However, it is still well worth a try

WS may not be for everyone, but I like it when I want a slower pace. I find the noise level to be OK and often they will have movies or American Sports on the tellie...
BS has a good Mexican buffet on Tuesdays.. a bit pricy, but all you can eat .. their Cajun food is not really that good as noted by others, but on the other hand it is good and those that have not had Cajun in the US will never know the difference.
Personally, I like the SD the best. I don't know Ned very well, but he doesn't seem to be involved much in the mgmt anyway (not sure why CJ needs to make nasty comments about Ned) .. Ott seems to do more of that and when she is not drunk she seems OK.. neither of them are around much when I am there anyway so who cares.. they have decent food and usually quite a few fun and cute girls who are quick to grope ..
TLS is Ok, but I have never enjoyed myself there as much as SD (personal taste) .. did meet a very sweet girl there that was one of the better lays I have had in Bkk ..
Square One just has never appealed to me nor has Wild Country ..
I like the traditional massage parlor there.. B250 for 1.5 hours plus a tip of b100 will do .. Huttisart is the name.. it is at the end where WS goes into soi 22 .. I have been there quite a few times and never had a bad massage.. one of my friends complained that the massage was too hard (softy Aussie ?? ).. I asked him if he told her to lighten up .. he said no ?? Why not ?? maybe he needs to go to a SM place?? complains about the pain, but deep down likes it?? Anyway, if you don't like the really deep tissue massage, tell the girl and they can do a lighter job .. no sex as far as I can tell, but you can joke around with the girls ..
