Wow! I was away from the forum and hadn't read this. It is starting to look like the old days.
Chompoo, thanks for bringing haam sup back to being the nasty badazz he once was. Though, his style has changed a bit since then. Despite you helping bring him back a bit, I guess he is a bit confused and now is torn between two currents: go back to being the badass he was or keep try making polite sense while figthing you.
On the actual topic, ... yes, I guess the two of you are more in agreement than in disagreement. But you two love each other too much to avoid taking advantage of each opportunity at pointing what may be any mistake by the other one -somehow Bandit comes to mind, I wonder why . Reading at the details posted, it is obvious that you are not each as bad or as stupid as the other one thinks -or tries to corner him into looking like one. I do actually envy you both. I wish Bandit had been half as smart as any of you are; it would have made fighting with him more challenging -but you cannot deny he was fun. Well, you still have each other. I seem to have lost my Bandit.
I wonder where this anymosity between you two -hamm sup and chompoo- comes from. Would it be from the days of the "I hurt someone" thread? Was it one of you who called the other a jesuit sermonizing inside a brothel? That was fun!
BTW, reading your fighting is entertaining in regards to reading "debating" as was once done in some threads in the forum, before it got populated by the likes of the DG. It seems we keep swinging back and forth. Too much intellectual debate makes the forum boring. Too little, also is boring. I guess the problem is finding the right balance.
Now, have I managed to piss both of you? only one or none? I am not sure what I would prefer. But either way, keep up the good work, I mean fight.

As soon as it gets to that point, I revert, happily, to bitch-slapping the little asshole. ÝI'm good at it, and I try to make it fun to watch, and not too mean, lest the monkeys in the surrounding trees get too nervous.
I like to be right, too, but it isn't life-or-death for me. ÝI make mistakes, and usually own up to them. ÝI can laugh at myself, and make others laugh. ÝAnd in sharp contrast, I have mostly lived what I post about. ÝI don't need to pull it out of my ass, and fight to the death trying to bluff my way into credibility.

I think I tried to convey that this is the widely held view in any society. Not my view. I love these creatures of comfort, and I hope I am not sounding condescending there.
The "better life" that I spoke about was in this context. Since prostitution is CONSIDERED an untouchable profession in most every society, any alternative that gets the girls out of this would be considered a "better life."

I agree entirely that this IS the widely-held view in any society, and certainly need not be related to the Indian caste system.
Personally, I find it quite loathsomely hypocritical. Prostitition exists - and always has existed - in nearly every culture, and is tolerated everywhere (to a greater or lesser extent) as a necessary safety valve for male promiscuity. Yet the women who provide this essential and difficult service get themselves spat on - not only by self-appointed pillars of social rectitude, but often by the very men who are only too happy to take their pleasures from them.
There are many 'decent people' who deserve to be shat on from a very great height.
However, I cannot agree that 'any alternative' must be considered a better life - and I wonder how many respectable Thais genuinely believe this. Many of the girls have contemplated or experienced the alternatives open to them and have freely decided that prostitution offers them (and/or their families, and/or their kids) a better deal.
This applies even to some girls who have drawn the supposed jackpot of the big American kitchen in farangland. Some return to the bars. Why? Well hubby may be a boring drunken prick, of course, and they miss Thailand terribly, of course, but there are often other factors too - they miss the camaraderie, the thrill of the chase and (above all, I think) the independence. For the one and only time in their lives, they were earning good money and were in control.
It's easy to see the downsides of prostitution, social damnation prominent among them. But I'd have thought that any newbie serving the farang market will be aiming to buy or marry her back to respectability in due course - and in the meantime, at least she has money, the freedom that goes with it, and the hope of a better life she could never have had working for a pittance in a factory or back on the farm.
I shouldn't generalise, I know - the histories, circumstances and attitudes of the girls vary widely. But we shouldn't forget that for many of them, going into the P4P profession was the most empowering thing they've ever done or ever could have done. And I'm not at all sure they deserve to be pitied any more than young and attractive girls of their age and class who have made a different choice. Sure, the latter have kept their reputations intact. What else have they got? ÝÝ
