I don't believe that. In general, your tip should be somewhere between the cost of a LD and her commission. That should cover the fine, if any. It should almost always be better for her if you give her the cash. But if your intention (or hers) is to get her into an altered chemical state, then by all means buy the lady drink instead.

I liked the atmosfear of Monet and Lucky. Not a lot of customers, but the girls were friendly and not pushy.
Santana was a hoot with CG. The women were a little more pushy, and he told me he got quite a proposition from the older catch that latched onto him! 55
Spent several hours in Lucky and only spent around 800 baht, I think I bought 4 LD's. Ladies came around bar right away. They were not asking for lady drinks and were fun. Sorry to the members I met if I seemed like an ass, I was distracted by two women. Took the two ladies I was talking with to lunch and a movie before their next shift. This bothers me, and (as mentioned earlier), I feel it's better to slip the girl the commission she would make on the drink by way of 20-30 baht rather than allow onesself to be taken for a ride.

Feel free to offer what you think are better options to the guys, but your final judgements show you have no tolerance for anything or anyone outside your narrow focus. "I don't like it, therefore it's bad."

Again showing you're unclear on the concept. What does it matter what's in the drink or whether she drinks it or pours it over her t-shirt? It might be flowers or beads that you buy the girls instead. You're paying for her company. You really consider 120 baht a "premium" for the companionship of a nice girl for 10 or 20 minutes (often more) ?

Fine, that's your preference. Many people (including myself) have stated that they also prefer that method (although you appear to be stingier than most). I have no problem with cheap charlies as long as they're constantly in my face telling me I'm spending too much and that I'm getting ripped off.
There are enough real scams going on to worry about and this is not one of them.
Spare me the tutorial on how Thailand works.

It would be nice if the punters could be counted on to tip the girl for her time, but as a rule they're too clueless to do so. Just like the automatic tip in restaurants for large parties of diners, it's forced upon everyone, even those with enough sense and class to do the right thing.
Giving the girl a tip based on how much of each lady drink she would normally pocket is only half the battle and in some cases none of it as there are clubs and bars where the girls don't get a cut of the lady drink at all.
You would also have to consider how much the girl might get cut by missing quota (if she has one). Some place cut salary by each lady drink below quota, other places have a flat penalty of hundreds or thousands of baht even if the girl misses by a single drink.
Once you understand just how varied the number of compensation schemes are -- once you factor in base salary, lady drinks, bar fines, quotas, short penalties, bonuses for overs, etc. -- you can start to understand why the girls behave so differently in different places.
It's ironic that while the girly bar business is all about money, attemtping to apply money at the wrong place in the process only screws things up.
In short, go with the flow and buy the lady drink. Or commit to carrying around a calculator and a 10cm thick binder with the compensation schemes for all the bars so you can be sure you're doing the right thing by the girls.
My only standing argument with the lady drink process is when the girls' drinks are priced differently than when sold to the punter. There's no "sensible" justification for a Heineken for me costing 105 and a Heineken for a girl costing 150.
But that's just my sense, and experience tells me that trying to short circuit the process with cash, educate the bar owner or the girl, or whining about it on the internet are all equally pointless. The simplest solution is to vote with your feet and find another bar or just let it ride.
