Without wanting to simply repeat myself re the Thai "attitude" it probably is worth repeating that (according to a survey by - I think - Chulalonkorn Uni) less than 5% of the Thai sex industry involves Farang to Thai relations.
Assuming that to be correct it aint exactly going to "go away" if either we moralise about it OR the "crackdown" materialises to a greater extent.
From a purely personal point of view, I too would not be too sad if it were "toned down" but then it would be impossible to pick and choose which bits to tone. I am sure there is not a bro' on this baord who would not want to see an end to the abuse (both physical and financial) that certain farang elements bring to this beautiful city.
I travel to LOS about 5 or 6 times a year - usually for 2 weeks at a time but often shorter. If Im there for two weeks I usually see about 2 or 3 girls and also try to see something of the city/country that I haven't seen before.
I have just come back today and tried to put my "theory" about "low life farang" (remember this was the GIRLS terminology and NOT mine!!) into practise. I talked with two guys on Soi Nana, one Brit one American. Both told me they had been to Thailand "many times" - NEITHER had seen the Grand Palace!!!!
THAT I found rather sad.
To me the beautuy of this place is the country, the people, the cultures etc - I can't "moralise" about P4P because I enjoy it too much - but its just an added bonus.
