ìThe point is pride of ownership and fun and bragging rights and fringe benefits rather than a net profit.î VJ My sentiments exactlyÖwith an emphasis on ëfringe benefitsí. From what I have read on this forum, many membership clubs in LOS charge 5,000baht to 20,000baht to join and what do you get? Your name on a bottle and some discounts? Weíre talking about 10,000b here and the bragging rights alone are worth that. Throw in the fringe benefits and youíre way ahead. Hello Girls: Only need two in IMHOÖOne, sweet and innocent with a look that says, ìIím a good girl but sometimes I do bad things.î Number twoÖnaughty and dangerous with a look that says, ìTake one step closer and Iím gonna rip off your clothes and do you right here. Itís gonna be hot, wild and wicked and youíre gonna beg me for more.î Ok, maybe Iím getting a little carried away here but you get the idea. Attire: I have always believed that a girl in a shirt with 2 or 3 buttons undone and no bra is a lot sexier than a girl running around with no shirt, showing everything. Leave a little to the imagination please. I get an instant rise whenever I see a girl in a mini skirt and high heelsÖnot trashy and not overdressed. Ohhhh my! And, it keeps the boys in brown from shutting you down for too much nudity. Bar Name: Ok, here come the gratuitous sucking upÖhow about Dark Nights? That should be worth a free banner donít you think BK? Iíd be proud to be a knight in this mans castle. Just call me Sir Gal-I-Had. Excuse me while I wipe the brown off of my nose. VJ, you are right, this is fun! Helps pass the hours and days until that silver bird puts me in the Land of Smiles.

Guys, Ýno I'm not an active post person but do keep in-tune to the Bangkoktonight everyday, Ýand I do visit LOS on a monthly basis. Ý If you guys are serious about owning and running this bar, Ýand I know who is running this bar, Ýcount me in now matter what the price. ÝShareholder status is just fine with me. ÝPlease PM me if this is serious, not just a hangout for people who can drink me under the table or want girls for free, but as a business partner.

Well, this is an investment that wouldn't rank with Amazon.com in my portfolio, but then it wouldn't rank with Qwest either. Ý I like to gamble and I would be willing to put 10,000 Baht on the pass line of a project like this. ÝThat is, if someone trustworthy like BK or TPE was in charge.

It's closing, I think, because the owners have taken extraordinary measures to run it into the ground. It hasn't been redone in years, the girls are awful, the interior is horrible, it isn't marketed anywhere. I could go on but the point is that the recipe for disaster was cooked to perfection. Some things like the awkward location can't be fixed but theat's just a small thing to overcome. Word of mouth is a better draw on the whole than just relying on walk-up traffic. A seperate place has also been floated and it's an idea with some merit. But since the regular non-subscriber patrons are actually paying the bills with the subscribers backing startup costs I think it makes more sense to put the place where the majority of punters go which is the go-go districts. Expatjack- As a serious investment a bar, any bar, or even a restaurant is a pretty poor investment in the clsssic sense. Most fail because of a lack of understanding of the market, bad location or undercapitalization. On that last, expecting any kind of return in the first 12-18 months is impractical. A place should be capitalized sufficiently to run at a slight loss for the first year. A positive cash flow after 6 months including debt service is pretty much a runaway success. I think the idea here is that any individual wouldn't be stung too badly if the whole thing flopped. But done right it could be a net return of 5% or a little more per year after the first year. Most service businesses run on a thin margin to begin with. Taking the number that we floated of 1 share = $250 or 10,000 baht that's a whopping profit of 500 baht per year. 1 barfine is nothing to sneeze at of course but it's nothing to write home about either. If anyone wanted to throw a 20x multiple at the project it could be a bigger hunk of change. 10K baht would pay for a few days fun in BKK and you'd stretch that by spending some of your time drinking at cost+ in the place you co-own. 5% guesstimated return is rational and conservative. It could also be 15% or 0% or even 1-year-and-out. Businesses can fail through no real fault of their own. No one should ever invest/gamble more than they can afford to lose if it all goes poof. Tsonoqua- Trust is the thing, isn't it? Particularly after the horror stories being floated about the Titty Twister debacle. People got burned for big money on that but part of it was lack of due diligence on the investors part too. Turning a fun, blue sky notion between friends into a somewhat rigid formal entity is not easy. Been there, done that. Peopl who would excersie caution over an amount as relatively small as $US250 are exactly the sort who should be involved. Tip of the cap, Tso. Contracts that are worth the paper they are written on are vital. Complications arise between western expectations and the nromal course of business in Thailand all the time.

ROI? Who needs a return? Heck I have blown more on my Gym membership in Singapore (that I rarely get to use because I am always traveling). The idea here is to have a place that, while it serves the public, will still be a club for the BKKTonight bros (and sis X) to hang out when we are in town. Keep me posted if this goes through.

To Vancouver Jay, Thanks for the advice, but I am not new to Thailand and have been going there for about 12 years now, almost every month. I know investing in a business in Thailand is beyond a sound investment and certainly not wise, and I hope I didn't come across as I was looking for a real business or something that would make money. I agree with the rest, it would be nice to have a place with fellow Bangkoktonight Bros. I'm not looking for free drinks, or free women, and I hope the other interested parties feel the same. Just would like a place well managed, have some pride in ownership, no freebies to owners (okay maybe a reduced price of some sort) , no long outstanding bar tabs, and again most importantly: "well managed". As for returns, I could care less how long it takes or if it occurs at all. Just do not wish to invest in a place where it's nothing but freebies (drinks and women) to other Bangkoktonight bros and the owners (or is you want to call them shareholders) are the ones supporting them. Sorry not my style, if this was my style then I too would quit work my ass off and living the good life in Thailand. Again, no matter what the cost, (no, not bragging, but money is not a problem with me) please keep me interested, and if this is serious the plans to set up such an establishment and how it will be handled. I hope I offended no one with these comments......

You can count me in for a share, and I'll even offer to be part of the active management as this is something I have some experience (and success) in. God, I know this is all being done at least half in jest, but it's sure got me salivating at what a cool idea. Still, stranger things have happened, I suppose.

This is a cool idea. However, what's the concrete plan to make it happen? Vancouver Jay? Where are you? Let us know the plan.

expatjack- Sounds like you have the same set of expectations that I was suggesting all along. So, accept my apology please if I seemed at all patronizing. I didn't mean to come off that way, I just think it's important to keep exectations realistic and maintain a focus on what is practical. That said, there's no reason that a place couldn't (in time) be a worthwhile investment vehicle. The returns might not be huge on a percentage basis and with a small buy-in per owner/subscriber not large in absolute dollar terms, but, theoretically enough annually to pay for a day or two of fun in LOS. The main rewards are intangible and any cold cash that comes back is icing on the cake. PenName- If and when, if and when... At present this is most decidedly "If" however. Tsonoqua- Concrete plan? Hahahaha. Actually, that may not be quite as much of a joke now. I got a PM from another board member and he and I Ýhave set up a meet to just kick around some ideas. This silly thread I started has begun to take on a life of its own. There is no concrete plan, not now, not on my part anyway. Even after our little meet today there probably wont be one, but maybe I'll have more things to post about. We'll see. To be frank with everybody, I'm getting more intrigued with this whole idea. I'm not quite at the point where I'd invest my time in writing a business plan cum prospectus nor feel good about spending (perhaps wasting) the time of an acquisition specialist, business consultant or anyone else to help navigate the mazes of licensing/regulation/taxation/bribery. I always hated it when people wasted my professional time in a free consultation when their interest was only speculative at best- I don't want to do that with/to anyone else either. Tossing away my own time batting the ball around here is one thing but cutting into someone else's time (and livelihood) is another. Something that would help sway me is how much interest people show here. Burning interest, passing interest, any interest. Anyone who doesn't want to go on public record can PM me. Last time I got a business off the ground was in California and we had the capital ready to go. Even had a software package to write the Articles of Incorporation- fill in the blanks, print 'em out, cut a check and mail it in. Presto! You're in business. It's not that easy in Thailand and getting set up is more work, plus the funding isn't in place yet. I'd be completely happy both to do the groundwork to get things going and be involved with the venture, but only once we get to some kind of critical mass of commitment by others to see the thing through to completion.
