This might be a stupid question--I haven't had my morning mocha yet--but:
Why are the Powers suddenly so interested in the BarGirl vote? Being mostly from Isan, they'd just vote against them even if they did go back home and register to vote.
The reason is that from an ASEAN standpoint this will be the most closely watched election in Thai history.
Consider the point that if there is any hint of 'hanky-panky' or the obstruction of opposing votes the Myanmar Junta is going to take this as a 'lifeline' in their negotiations with the UNCHR.
That being the case, the Junta here is LOS wants to ensure that as much as possible the election here in LOS is above-board and that everyone who wants a chance to vote will be allowed so.
For you Farang punters who can not stand a few days of sobriety and chastity shame on you....
....you should have planned to pack in a girl and some booze ahead of time  ...

is this just affecting EZ's or is it all establishments, so we can't even buy from supermarkets ?
Trader Vics at the Marriott on the river is serving alcohol all weekend, no problems, but they confirm they are not selling on the 22 and 23rd. Does that indicate places like the Huntsman in the Landmark hotel will be open ?
If it's anything like normal, alcohol will be readily available but served in plastic mugs, just no bottles, and bills paid for as you go, rather than a tab.

I remember during one of the elections, my beer was served from a tea pot, and the best part was that I didn't get a bill since no alcohol was supposed to be served.

Yeah I'm not too worried but I just find it ironic that my first trip to LOS in two years starts exactly when this "ban" starts...But I have no trouble realizing the importance of the elections for the country and if puts the Burma generals that much closer to losing power- I'm all for it.
