I agree with poolplayer. However, wouldn't put Hillary Bar (I recognized while living close to this peaceful soi for a couple of months now, there is a whole bunch of Hillary establishments on soi 4 nowadays) in the same league with Ball in hand, which IMHO has the best non barlike atmosphere...
Maybe I should check out afterwork, only been to Country Road so far and didn't like it particularly well.

You're right about Ball In Hand - it is the place to play serious pool.
Still, saying that Afterwork is like 500 other beer bars is a bit misleading - playing 9-ball against decent opponents on two competition level, 9-foot tables is quite different from playing 8-ball with Thai rules against a bargirl on a crappy old automatic table in some shithole on soi 22.
For someone who wants to play 9-ball against a friend and doesn't have his/her own cue, it's a no-brainer - go to Ball In Hand, you get a great table, great service, good house cues... It's the perfect place for that. But for someone who's out and about alone and wants to play 9-ball in an environment that's more pub/bar than pool lounge, then Afterwork is at least worth a look.
By the way, what does "play the dudes in sports car driving hats leaned up against the poles" mean? I'm lost.

Don't like double posting but it has neen a few days.
The word on the street is that Ball in Hand II is set to open - ground floor of Times Square.
Supposed to have 10 tables - all top class Brunswick; 8 nine footers & 2 eight footers.
Will keep ya posted. btw - 3 rd floor of Syn have quite a few tables. Not very busy. Ball in Hand, on the other hand, is packed.
