my wife is trying to find a good date to go home and visit her family, but she won't go until this situation cools down... in the vilage things are starting to get a little wierd.... cut off cell phone service, etc... In Isaan.
I think this is the 'last stand' of the troublemaker.. he knows it is not or never, get ready for some wierd shit over the next few weeks.

Took a short stroll around Sukhumvit, Gulliver's was open but only 3 pool tables were in use. The other 6 tables were all covered. First time I have seen it so quiet. New Wave was open but the food court next door was closed and so were the bunch of shops next door. Bangkok Beat was open and so was Eden Club. Soi 11 was pretty much dead. Climax, Bed SupperClub, Hillary 11, Q Bar and St. Moritz were all closed. They will probably remain closed tomorrow as well. Army and police can be seen hanging out mainly on Sukhumvit Rd between soi 7 and soi 11.

Gave Dreamgirl a call today to check in on her. She said due to the closing of Patpong and military activity in the Nana area (rendering NEP pretty much closed), Soi Cowboy is pumping on all cylinders. Situation is for sure not normal, and I m happy to leave tonight
I usually live in thailand 1 month out of 3 but dont plan to come back before 6 month or more, you guys do and say what you want but I know fairly well what modern guns can do and dont want to end up at the wrong end of one.

... did a recon Sunday night of Soi Cowboy to observe how the street battles are affecting BKK's after-hours activities... arrived about 8.30a and departed about 11.30a, visiting two of the more popular bars.
... foreigners were notably absent on the street, with smiling greeters far, far outnumbering visitors... sad to see that the new bar across from Shark Bar has opened sometime in the last month... Sahara... eee-yow!, not an auspicious time to debut.

Shark Bar was fully staffed and operational, with the full complement of lovelies in attendance... the gurls report their business has been very slow for two months now, but this last week is the all-time low in any of their working memories, which might be 5-6 years for the three with whom I chatted... at 10.00p, there were no more than 20 patrons to lust upon the 50 or so service providers... Shark Bar is one of the more popular venues on the soi.
... made my way over to Suzie Wong's for the floor shows, typically making it one of the more popular joints on Soi Cowboy between 10.00 and 11.00p... as Shark Bar, Suzie Wong's was fully staffed... the katoey mama-san running the joint, usually an untiring blur of perpetual motion, was uncharacteristically low-key... during peak hours last night, the place hosted not more than 15-18 guests... still, in the finest tradition of the old-time entertainers: 'the show must go on'... and it did... to enthusiastic applause by admirers of the artful way lesbians strap other lesbians onto their faces like gas masks, and then hog them out like pigs rooting for buried truffles (... umm, sorry to mix my metaphors there, men).
... the Soi Cowboy nightlife persists, even in the shadow of national calamity... not exactly the Vietnamese gaming dens that reportedly never even flinched as the godless commies rolled over Saigon and their country burned, but still weird like that... maybe only 2-3 kms down Sukhumvit, street battles are being waged for control of Thailand's next dynasty... continuing the modern-day Thai feudalism, or the ugliness of a Thai oligarchy.
... short of declaring curfews (about which the government did hint on Sunday, 16 May), or the Reds occupying, digging-in and declaring Soi Cowboy liberated from aristocratic, feudal oppression, I believe the long and proud tradition of renting pussy on Soi Cowboy will continue, without even flinching... civil war, or not... Bangkok burning, or not.
