I wonder when that hotel next door will begin its operation. They took over the building next door and renovated it. If the price is right, this hotel will be a hit, due to its strategic location. I'm sure Tim will know.

I was reading on another forum about small gangs hanging around Gullivers and the Soi 5 and 3 areas in recent times.
Last February whilst I was in Bamboo bar I noticed it was becoming a lot more cosmopolitan.
It is a shame if a larger area is changing for the worse as I have had some good nights there when I have been in Bangkok.
Only ever took one lady out of Gullivers though

Not all the rooms are finished however the hotel has been operating for a few weeks now. When I stopped in to inquire, promo rates were around 23-2500 baht.
I did not check out the rooms but it seems to be simply, yet nicely done. Certainly a convenient location but I did not see direct access from the restaurant. Also, they have something they want to call a pool. It is on the ground level, at the back, enclosed in glass and not much larger than a party jacuzzi.

I am not sure how things are around Soi 5 at the present time, one BM from Secrets forum was not impressed.
During my recent trip to Bangkok in April-2009, I happened to visit Gullivers (the famous freelancer joint in BKK). During these visits I hardly saw any talent there. The girls who were hanging out in Bar were more or less the same ones that hang around on the roads of Sukumvit or Nana Parking.
There were some very bad and strange experiences that took place in Gullivers which I would like to share with fellow forum members. I would also call this a word of caution for anyone who plans to visit Gullivers during their trips to BKK.
On day-1, I reached the Place around 8:00 Pm and saw that a bunch of shady looking Africans were hanging outside the Bar. There were keeping a keen eye on the Farang and Asian Tourists. I did not bother about this and walked into the Bar and took a corner stool near the entrance. After about 10 Minutes one of the African along with a Fattish Arab lady came and sat on the next table (which was at an arms length). They ordered beer and started talking that there is a lot of money to be made in Thailand and they plan to visit Europe with the One Million Bath they made that morning. I think by doing this they were trying to grab my attention.
In midst of their talks the Arab Lady was looking my way and making some sexual gestures which I ignored. The African then turned around and asked me for a light. He then opened up conversation like hello, where are you from, first time to Thailand etc. I just shook my head and ignored his questions. He did not like this a bit. He then said “buddy wanna make some quid on the side”. I politely declined and walked away.
I walked out and into the Soi where there was lot of Arab and Indian restaurants. All along the way I would lots of huge built shady types hanging around and generally staring at the tourist. I went inside an Egyptian Restaurant and ordered Food. To my utter shock, the same African and the Arab lady came and occupied the next table and he said “buddy small world, we seem to bump into each other very often, the lord has something for us in store”. He continued that after the food we should have a drink together and that he would pay the Bill. I politely refused once again. He gave me one of those dirty stares and said that I am a prick. The lady continued with her gestures which again I ignored.
I finished food and walked out of the place and found that the African and the lady were in close pursuit. They stopped me at the Nana Intersection and the lady spoke for the first time that she has a very young and non p4p sister who can be called to join. I once again refused saying that I am tired and want to sleep. She wanted to know which Hotel; I was staying and that they would visit me to show the girl and discuss a business plan. On my refusal to reveal my Hotel, the African started getting infuriated and said that he is extending his hand out to help me and I am being a non sportive jerk. While all this was going on two more Huge looking Africans came and joined and started to pester me. This was seen by a young group of British Boys who were standing nearby. One of them visibly very drunk tried to intervene and find out what s going on. To my shock of everyone one of the African gave him a big push which sent him flying down the road asking him to stay out of it. The Brit boy escaped unhurt as there were Red Traffic Lights On and no vehicular movement, otherwise for sure he would have ended up under one of the speeding cars.
His group of Friends suddenly pulled him over and one of them by mistake said “dude, don mess with niggers” and this really started a sort of small fist cuff. I took that opportunity and ran for cover.
Had this been one of the Odd incidents, I would have dismissed it without giving it another thought but during my next two subsequent trips to Gulllivers, I had to encounter another bunch Africans with more devious game plans to trap the gullible tourist.

Have been there a couple of time the last few days, and yes, I have to agree there weren't much talent (Do note: that this varies from time to time, it could be better at the end of the month; rent time!), though I did meet a pretty non-P4P girl.

They are not particular Nigerians. Those hanging around (both male and female) near Sukhumvit come from all kinds of African countries like Ghana.

The Gullivers didn't happen to me I got it from a BM on Secrtes, here is a second part of his story
"Incident in the last week of October-2009
An Incident that took place off Soi-5 last week. An Indian Monger along with his TG was walking around the internal lanes of the Soi and he was stopped by two young Africans who tried to sell a Gold Coin to him. He said that he was not interested. They insisited that he take the coin in his hand check out the weight and that they are selling it to him for only 2000B. They also cooked a story that they have laid their hands on some treasure in Kenya and have got the whole thing smuggled to Thailand.
The Indian Fool took the coin in his had and gave it back saying that he is not interested. One of the Africans left the scene immediately and from the nearby alley four menancing looking ones came out and started demanding the coin back. The Indian guy said that he had given the coin back and the person who left has taken it with him etc etc.
They said BOOSHIT give the coin back or we will smash your skull right here..all this was hapenning at around midnight and the bypassers who were seeing this drama did not wait to find out whats happening or help the guy in trouble. The Africans then started feeling up the girl saying that the coin is hidden in her under garments etc. They really started messing with the duo.
When the Indian said that he will call the cops he got a hard shove and two buttons broken off his shirt. Finally they let go the couple after extracting 3200 Bath from the poor chap.
I am told that this is a new menace that is lurking around the corners of soi-5 and lot of hotels that side are losing business because of this. Also the Bar Girls do not like to venture into that area anymore fearing such attacks...
Hooliganism at it height, I would say and why are the Thai Authorities not acting...God Knows
