this Soi33 seems like more and more of a waste of time to me...

This is really quite simple. For me, Soi33 is a great place to be for Happy Hour. It is not expensive and you can actually, uhh, have a conversation with some of the girls.
If you want to pay barfine and then screw them, you can do that with many of them, just tell them that this is what you have in mind, and they can either accept or decline, depending on whether they sleep with who punters barfine them. Simple.
If you'd rather look at lots of half-naked girls that are guarenteed to screw you without you first asking if they "do that", then go to a gogo bar.
I go to both places.

CG, right on. Some people don't realise that Soi33 is quite a different scene from the go-gos, and that the BGs and punters (or rather, some of both) behave accordingly, at least on the surface.
Soi33 is a good place for HH (practically non-existent in the go-gos), admiring girls wearing evening/cocktail dresses, or alternatively tight white tops and jeans, and having a game of pool.

I had all kinds of great uhh, conversation with that young go-go gal who was lap dancing for me at PlaySkool the night of RT.

oh, and her friend was even better in her linguistics skills.
I took a walk up Soi33 a week before RT, the prices in the windows looked good, 70b for Heineken.
Wasn't particularly impressed with the gals in the street. Not one of them called me a hansum seksey man or tugged on my sleeve.
Everything I need to know about Soi33 I've heard 2nd hand from my mates down here, and only 1 of the whole lot is a regular (weekly). The other guys pop in there when they finally get bored with NEP & SC (yearly). Birds of a Feather and all.
and they ALL are happier with P4P in my neighborhood and Pattaya than in BKK.
