cmore, I'm not going to tell you what to do. You can choose to ignore the agreed upon implication of a BF if you choose to and use whatever arbitrary code of ethics for prostitution in LOS you feel good about. However, those are only your artificial rules and have no bearing on how others could or should conduct themselves.
According to your rules you must agree explicitly on everything with a girl before you pay the BF.
1) So you BF a girl with the intent of taking her to dinner and she decides that she would rather just hang out in the bar and not leave with you. You would not have any complaints about this and would freely recommend this bar and this girl to your friends?
2) Say you did agree with the girl that you would go to dinner and you pay the BF. She leaves with you, but sees a guy she knows passing by and chooses to go with him instead. Again, you would not have any complaints over this, you would not ask for your BF back, and would freely recommend the bar and the girl?
3) You BF a girl, take her to dinner and then back to your hotel for sex. In the morning she asks for a tip and you refuse because she didn't clarify that beforehand. According to your rules this is fair. Maybe you would tip her, but you apparently would not have any problem if I chose not to, right?
4) You BF a girl at midnight and take her out for a walk in the park. You then walk her back to the bar at 2:30 and say good night. According to your rules everyone should be happy and no promises were broken. However, in reality that girl was expecting to have sex with you and pick up at least 1000B or so and you have ruined her chance for the night. You have been completely dishonest (or clueless) by not having sex with her (or at least tipping her as much as you would have if you did have sex) and are ruining her livelihood.
If you truly follow your rules then the only conclusion you could make is that everyone acted completely properly in these cases, yet they are in reality total disasters. In your world there is no trust and no one is bound to try to keep to their word.
The fact is that every bar owner and gogo girl knows (or should know) that a BF implies sex and a substantial payment for that sex. It is completely dishonest for a girl to accept a BF and then pretend she thought you were just going out for a bite to eat (unless you've explicitly told her that was your only intent).
You may think that this is ethical and moral behavior on your part, but it really is just adding an emotional and overly sympathetic component in a situation where it is not warranted. This kind of attitude actually causes more trouble and more misunderstandings and more abuse of the system, because there is no accountability and no reasonable expectations can be made.
I think about ethics, morality and the rules I choose to live by and expect others to follow. My rules are consistent and fair. Your rules may make you feel good, but when delved into are completely impractical and have no logic or reason.
The system that the 99% of us use, i.e. BF -> prostitution, works pretty well. Your system breaks down very quickly.

Did I read 400-600 baht BF on Soi 33??? I must have certainly been in the wrong place. I was told at Christies, the BF was 1500 for ST and 2000 for long time. The girls were expecting up to 4000 baht for tip for long time. Needless to say, I didn't see any better quality and walked, or should I say ran???? Not being cheap, but that was ridiculous.

bar fines, seem to tell off on themselves for the most part(not sure if the same on soi33). GG's, and BB's have to different BF's right, long and short time, now that right there when the BG says it means sex(to her anyways) is going to happen. That's not what the BF's for, but as far as shes concerned it is. You should talk about what you want, coz as said she does'nt have to except the BF. If she thinks shes not going to make any money from you for the rest of the night, chances are she wont except the BF. On occasion i've heard them say they were tired BF me so I can go sleep. Do they go sleep, beats me... So the intended purpose of the BF (on the top) is to compensate the owner of the bar, but on the bottom it for her to have sex...

Sorry for the confusion, jack. The thread was derailed from the original discussion about Soi 33 very early on. The BFs on Soi 33 are typically what you were told. Soi 33 bars (and girls) have a very different business plan than a typical gogo bar would have and they serve a small niche of customers.

Chompoo, thanks for the clarification. I'm 38 and certainly not overweight in anyway so thought maybe I was being taken for a ride, by the bar, not the girl. But after seeing other filangs come in, they too quickly walked out after less than 2 minutes. At least I stayed for a few drinks and chats. As for anything special down there, I certainly didn't see much of any thing extremely special of the bars, excuse me, special clubs with clientele, in fact what I saw was maybe 1 filang, besides myself and a lot of desperate women looking for some work and this just wasn't at Christies. Maybe a bad night, but I did go there for about 3 nights as I was staying nearby. Anyways, thanks for the clarification.

liftoff, I don't think I'm the one you should be asking as that was also my first time on Soi 33. All I was saying was that I thought the BF was a bit high for Thailand standards. As for the ladies, best you ask someone with much more experience. Each has their own regarding what is special, and maybe I just picked a bad night, or okay, a bad 3 nights, but this was high season???? Again, I mean nothing bad against Soi 33, just inexperienced. I'm sure the other forum members can clarify your question much better than me. Sorry, I didn't really answer your question, but thought best not.

i walked soi 33 a number of times and saw very little to justify the excorbitant bar fines stated on the site not a bad place to go towards the end of happy hour drinks are 80 baht until 700 or 900pm in some bars after that it doubles not worth early as no girls present.

Yes...it is 3 times more expensive.....the girls...well quality is in the eye of the beholder....I personally enjoy soi 33...I usually go for the Happy Hours to start a good evening out. I find the girls...not pushy (I have never been asked for a lady drink)....very polite.....good conversationalists. In some places it's a 3 drink minimum to get them to sit with you...so i usually just drink with them over the counter if that is the deal.....I like Monet which in my opinion has the best looking girls on soi 33....Renoir....good fun.....and the Office...(which is not so much a standard soi 33 bar.
The other attraction is the surroundings / music levels are more pleasant than say soi Cowboy / Nana Plaza.
I certainly would not BF a girl at that sort of rate....but I would get the phone number and meet elsewhere one of the girls if I was truly interested.
Of course my evening usually ends up in Soi Cowboy or Nana...so I'm pretty versatile.
