If the bar is open and selling drinks, then punters have the right to enter and drink, without the 10k Charge.
The Bar can get closed down, yes, but unless it is specifically written that Alcohol can't be purchased this Weekend then they can't do anything to the Punters.
As far as I know, all this Bar Closing/Opening is Hearsay. Some people "In the know" here say it's going to close... others that it will be open.... so which one is it Folks?

If it's any indication, I can confirm that Trader Vics at the Marriott Resort & Spa on the river have just confirmed that they will NOT be serving alcohol on saturday and sunday this weekend (15 & 16).
That is a very strong indication that this will be enforced, if a 4* resort can't serve alcohol in it's restaurant then I can't see anyone trying it. Also, received confirmation this only affects Bangkok, outside of Bangkok is business as usual.
Expect Pattaya to be packed out !

We have the letter from the police here. We are not allowed to sell alcohol
from Friday, 14.12.2007, 6 pm to Sunday 16.12.2007, 6 pm
and
from Saturday, 22.12.2007, 6 pm to Sunday 23.12.2007, Midnight.
As we heard most of the bars in Soi Nana, Soi Cowboy and Soi 33 will be closed on those days.
Background are the upcoming general elections in Thailand.
Livingstone's restaurant and Sports Lounge will be open, but we will NOT sell any alcohol.

Soi Cowboy - or most of it at least - will be open I am told. No alcohol as per Livingstones post.
BTW according to a Pattaya bar owner on another board it does apply in Pattaya as well. It is reported also that Foodland Pattaya already has no alcohol signs up for the 3 days.

this are my first elections as a bar owner.
but I remember that during elections police was rather strict.
TOXIC will there fore comply with the rules and close this friday and saturday. back to booziness on sunday.
word is that bars will be allowed to open on the 23rd as usual.
also I do remember that patpong for some reason was mainly unaffected during elections and they were allowed to sell booze in plastic cups.
any intel what the situation is going to be at patpong/suriwong area??

We went through some elections already. This time the discussions with the police are very serious.
Our recommendation would be to strictly follow the police instructions. They will come and check, and they will either make money for themselves or impose high penalties when you sell alcohol.
In the moment the new is that we also cannot sell alcohol on the 16.12.2007 until midnight. In the letter it still was 6 pm. We just try to verify that.
