I've noticed the same thing. I have very few exceptional photos of Thai ladies, though I think by many standards, some of the ladies are real head turners. I was thinking it may have to do with the way their often angular faces catch the light of the flash unit. It seems to exaggerate those angles and shadows. In real life, and real light, those angles and shadows are actually more subtle and very pretty. I really notice this on my TGF. The photos I've taken inside with flash under fluorescent light are often very harsh, but I have a few taken (during some island hopping) that are really nice.
I know the digital cameras have an adjustment to accomodate fluorescent light. A professional photographer would, of course, use indirect light, screens, and reflectors. My TGF had some studio photos taken of her in these conditions, and they are really beautiful (almost more than the real thing, lol!).

Interesting theory. But whatever the reason, you certainly can't trust a TG's pix to give a fair impression of her looks. They often bear no resemblance at all, and the change is never for the better.
A frightening thought is that these are indeed objective records, and that all the 'improvement' in real life is due to the brain's editing function. What you see and what you perceive are not necessarily the same thing. This might explain the very wide divergence in taste where TGs are concerned - why one guy's 10 can easily be another's 5. Perhaps they're not really 'seeing' (ie, perceiving) the same girl at all.
