Not mentioned previously, but a hidden advantage of part ownership by US and perhaps other taxpayers could possibly be qualification as a business tax deduction for your BKK visits, in which event ownership could be a write-off until turning profits. However IRS in US allows a limited time period for continuing to take writeoffs in lieu of profits.

Are any of you bros accountants or otherwise knowledgeable concerning USA tax law? I would get involved in this with the thought that I could get some tax deductions for trips to visit"my Business" in LOS. Somehow I feel the tax man might scoff at the idea of spending $800 for roundtrip airfare each year to check on a investment of a couple of thousand dollars.

As with any business; you never want to make a dime as the Tax books go; break even or wash a loss. As for the financial books the business should so profits as to keep investments around and pay debt; let alone payroll and afterward yourself the sole dumb ass. Bar ownership everywhere is fiercely competitive. Liqour distributerships would be grand, just talk to Frank Sinatra he had a Bud distributership in greater Los Angles CA for years and thats what made him richer than his movies or singing ever did.

Hey guys I have been following this a bit with Loknar. BTW what is a hand's free bar? I looked around the site a while before I asked so please don't flame me.
Anyway Loknar and I are both Americans and we are interested in the possibilities here but I haven't seen a business plan.
Here are a few of my concerns:
1) Getting screwed (unpleasantly) by Thais.
2) Sharing ownership with anyone who dips his wick in the company till.
3) Figuring out how to get paid? May not be an issue but I can't very well get a write off for travel if the place goes tits up in a week.
US tax bonus:
Basically you have 5 years to make money before Uncle Sugar (aka Uncle Sam) calls it a hobby and you lose the write off. So you can run around and visit it (check with your tax pro since I'm not your tax pro), and write it off no problem. The catch is that you have to have a balance sheet to do that. Your circumstances may very so ask whoever does your taxes. I haved owned by own business in the past and I use a professional to do my taxes, she told me no problem I just have to have some kind of income to charge it against.
This brings up the whole issue of what is acceptable to the government here in the US or wherever you are. So I think that before I write a check I would need some sort of plan for receiving regular statements a contract and the like. Otherwise my concern becomes what happens if I have to prove that my Bar investment is real?
For me at least I have no delusion that I'm going to make a lot of money from this. What I am looking for is how can it help me with taxes and expenses. I care about that because this gives me a vehicle to recapture what I would spend in LoS when I am going there. Of course I will have to continue traveling there and "scouting" for new locations.
