It was too early for her to have done a ST already IMHO. If it were my bar, I too would be intrigued to know of this going on. I wouldn't be surprised if the entire 1000 baht was being kept by the mamasan as the girl was clearly "off books" with no salary being paid.
From my perspective on what happened, the girl's attitude wasn't the problem. As I said she offered to repay me the 400 baht, lowering her take on the ST to 600 baht. That is assuming she went through with it and didn't hit me up for more as a "jai dee man." Perhaps that was her plan.
But I just didn't think a confrontation with the mamasan was the thing to do, especially since I got my 1K back after just a short wait.

I sometimes go to the Dollhouse on Cowboy for Happy Hour and see the following scene. There are perhaps a dozen guys there, every last one of them sitting alone, the girls on stage being entirely uninterested in even making eye contact. The girls who are not on stage are sitting together in various corners of the bar, also completely ignoring the customers.
The Dollhouse isn't the only bar on the street where I've seen this behaviour, but it certainly is the one where it is most prevalent, in contrast with a bar like Shark, for instance, where the girls are quite friendly by comparison.
What is going on with this place? Is there some sort of house rule that the girls at DH need some sort of formal invitation through the mamasan to join a customer? Has anyone else noticed this? Ten or twenty years ago any bar that operated like this would be out of business fast, but I guess the expectations of customers who've only recently discovered Thailand are so low, it doesn't really matter to them.

You are spot on about DH. I always felt a bit bored in DH although the talent line-up is pretty good (especially for titties  ) and one day I realized that it was right because the girls are so damned passive in there... you can sit in there for hours without being asked for anything else than your drink…
On the other hand, there is a policy problem here and a balance to meet.
We surely hate the places where the BGs are annoying and too pushy... Look at these HJ/BJ bars (Afterschool, Jungle Jim etc.)
IMHO the right thing is if the girls actually try to make contact but carefully, with a little bit of eye contact first and ready to accept a No as an answer but surely without forcing patrons to talk to them or buy LDs...
Maybe someone should tell Mr. D about it… Guess he has made his policy decision anyway…

Mick, you are spot on. The girls should be friendly but not overly aggressive. Why do so few bars these days seem to be able to strike this balance? To be fair to the Dollhouse, I thought I'd try it at a later time (11:30PM) this evening to see if it was just a "happy hour" thing. It was a bit better, and I did get a nice offer from a cute serving girl there. Still, they need to do something about so-called "happy hour".

Have to agree on this observation. Have been there a couple of times and sure seen some nice ladies. But I always wondered how they contact anyone or if that is the establishements idea?! Ladies dont give a s--t about you and that has been the same everytime I have been in there. They "dance" and chat and entertain themselves. So why go in? Well - I have to just have a drink and look at the dames. Realising it is not a "pick-up" place!

I have a different experience at DH.
I go in, sit and get my drink.
When I see a cutie that makes me stop breathing, I take my time and watch her to be sure I want her. Then I call her over or ask mamasan to get her for me.
If the interview goes well, I am inside her in less than an hour.
No problem with passive policies becasue I know and they know it is all about the money.

bkkfella - I understand what you are saying, but that just doesn't work for me.
I've been around here for a while and I guess I just got too used to the way the go-go bars used to be to accept the current way of doing business as epitomized by the DH.
The atmosphere I used to so enjoy involved walking into a go-go bar, surveying the choice of girls, smiling at a few of them, and waiting for them to come my way and chat. No need for a mamasan or gestures other than the smile. The girls would constantly interact with the customers in a playful, friendly way creating an atmosphere of fun. Rather than looking at themselves in the mirror as they danced, they'd be looking at the customers, smiling, joking, trying to get a response. When off stage, rather than going to sit in the corner to talk amongst themselves and ignoring customers unless specifically requested to join one, they'd circulate.
It was a blast. Now, it just seems kind of ho-hum. It may always have been true that it was all about the money, but there was always a fantastic illusion of so much more.
Just my point of view. Some might say I've just been here too long, but the go-go scene really has noticeably changed for the worse IMHO, and I always reminded of this fact most in the DH.
