But seriously, I think people who pay more than others are not really wrecking the market for the others. The girls know what they want, generally know what their services are worth, and usually know the market. Just because someone gives a girl twice her usually rate, it doesn't wreck it for the guy who pays the going rate. Sometimes he ever hears stories about "customer have money too much."

Agreed CG, Girls are also quick to assess the customers BKK experience. A few words in thai and they know their not getting the top dollar and will either walk away or quote a more realistic price.
An example, Baccara,, was there with the Doc,, saw number ??? and just had to have my hands on that.
Doc says usual go here is 3,500 minimum ( japs frequent the place),, shocked poor me just nodded and decided to have a drink with her anyway,,,,,,, chatted using the limited ( 500 - 700 ) words I have and after being a friendly guy asked how much. Straight up she says 3k,, I agreed ( my most expensive contract ever but as I said I HAD to have my hands on that).
2 nights later I'm out with a fellow BTF member ( forget the name) and we are at this after hours disco,,, super crowded etc,, get out of there and cross the 10 foot road ( sub soi) to a place with gals for rent.Had a few drinks and one of the Papa suns arrived,, he was from Isaan. Quoted 4,000 BHT, insisted on 4k, said he get trouble f less than 3,500 etc etc,,ok Mel time to use all those Isaan slang words you know?????
Cut a long story short,, we left with the 2 best gals ( 6 at best) for 2,000 L/T,,, a bargain for that time of night with limited alternatives.My gal did EVERYTHING after some encouragment.
AHHH which reminds me that BTF member from Queensland Australia was suppose to drop the 2,000BHT I paid for his Gal, too RTB at Toxic bar?????
truly BKK is getting painfull,, spending such time arguing over price when a quick flight to vietnam will see me with little need of my 200 words in vietnamese to organise a gal for the equivalent of 960 BAHT, return to my very nice hotel ( 800 BHT ).Thailand is prospering way beyond it real value and will soon be brought back to reality ( see my post in US dollar / Baht section)

I'm with you on this one. Also agree with CG that the ladies know the market and have a sense of what they will accept. I still get 1000 baht ST's from gogo's and beer bars, am asked for repeat business at that price, and so have a group of regulars. I don't do LT's as I don't think my TGF wants to wake up next to a new face every other day. 
There is a "going rate" in the sense that all things have an intrinsic fair market value. But that rate is always a negotiation, especially in Asia. Even for odds and ends one buys at street stalls. There is a point in every negotiation when you know that pushing for a lower price is demeaning to the vendor -- I remember watching this one day as an Indian women (fat and smelly, as I recall) kept browbeating a poor shop girl in Pratunam for a price that was obviously ridiculous. The shop girl tried her best to remain polite while dealing with this lunacy, but in the end told the woman "no."
Unfortunately, in the few years I've been going to LOS, I find the attitudes of the ladies more jaded, as the Internet and other media creeps into their lives. My TGF feels the same way, and is often surprised by what she considers rudeness in the nighteries. It's one reason I don't say "yes" to the first price that comes out of their mouths when quoting me ST rates.
I think it's great that the ladies can occasionally make a windfall profit from a newbie, but the expectation that is creeping in and the somewhat sour attitudes I've seen in Nana and Soi Cowboy have caused me to seek other venues, where politeness is still considered a virtue.
It's call voting with my feet.

I would take it a step further to say that her minimum price will vary by the punter, i.e, how much she likes the guy (and there's no rational explanation for as to why).
Baccara chick is a case in point (or maybe an exception). A few years ago, I'm sitting upstairs with a fellow BTF board member. He's younger, hansumer and wealthier than I, he speaks fluent Thai (perhaps a drawback) and points out a couple of girls on stage who just won't go with him, no matter how persistently he tries. So I point out the one I like, our friend the deckserve sitting next to me overhears this, and within seconds said dancer was practically sitting on my lap. My friend said something like, 'f*** me, I waste all this time and energy trying to pull these girls and you find a chick from Chiang Mai right off the bat?'
There's no explaining it.
I know I'm repeating myself here, but I spent a few nights with the girl and she was happy to accept 3K per night. I also got in the habit of barfining a few of her workmates and bringing them around with us.
This continued for many subsequent trips, but she would no longer accept direct payment ("You boyfriend, not customer." ) An offer of payment was the equivalent of a slap in the face (she even returned money that I'd quietly slipped in her purse).
The girl was relatively well off in her own right (she didn't 'need' to work in a bar -in fact, last I was in town, the Thai 'Sukhumvit station' announcement on the MRT was her voice), and she had a generous old Japanese sponsor. The guy was so kind as to let her go out drinking with one of my friends and some girls even after he'd paid bar and was sitting with her.
But I digress. My point is, why did I get so lucky? There's no explaining it. On a couple of occasions we bumped into expat friends of mine and she'd tell me, "He always try to pay bar for me but I not go with him' (before I'd known her). My friends verified her story.
So I think the price varies by the girl's affinity for the punter. I also wonder if things would have worked out as nicely had I approached her by negotiating that first night. Maybe some girls prefer not to do business that way.
PS. I know I've repeated this story a couple of times. I'm not trying to brag - I just got lucky - but I use it as an example of how refreshingly non-mercenary some of these bargirls can be.

Guys, just to clarify, my original post was not meant in a boastful way, it was merely providing info on the topic of the thread.
For info, ST was agreed prior at 1,000Baht (it's how much she asked for) I have been in Thailand going on 8yrs now, whilst my Thai is appaling considering that, we did have a joke and chat in the bar first, and enjoyed several drinks, I am no spring chicken, and no lean machine, so looks did not come into it for her.
I wasn't expecting the long list of exceptional services I received, but they were ALL instigated by her and welcomed by me. Perhaps a tip was in order for exceptional service, of perhaps this is her standard service for the fare she requests, all I know is I became a repeat customer for her, and the price has never changed or been questioned, I am a happy paying customer, and she is a happy recipient of the payment (otherwise she would not repeat).
Whilst I agree there are unwritten 'standard rates' for varying circumstances and venue, if she says a 1,000 i'm hardly likely to counter her with 1,500 !!
Peace and enjoy. By the way, did any other brother manage to sample the delights of this special lady ?

Sheesh... 3000+600 baht translates to over $100 US at current rates. Can't exactly call that cheap. I'm all for stating the price I'm willing to pay up front, and it will be 2000 LT for anything less than a solid 9...
