I had an experience outside one of the Nana bars a couple of years back when the bouncer said "You not welcome here" or something of the sort. I put it down to my mediterranean looks. He was obviously trying to intimidate me but I wasn't going to be intimidated and kept returning his stares. Finally he turned around (away) mouthing some Thai (expletives I presume) and I walked away. A couple of nights later I went by looking for him and there he was. I said: Look, if you don't want me in here that's fine but be civil about it. He smiled and patted me on the back and said "You welcome". Go figure. I made it a point when I went by afterwards to sometimes have a little goodie for him, u know the freebies u get like perfume samples, etc. (Those perfume samples do come in handy with BGs too.) and he made it a point to buy me a drink every now and then. No doubt his initial onslaught was racially motivated. The bar was near the entrance of Nana on the right past the escalator.
vertigo: Interesting. You are a brave man though. Staring down a boucer could have been detrimental to your health. Since he and his buddies could've attempted to kick your butt when you attempted to leave. BUT ... good thing nothing happened and it seems like you've become good aquaintences.
I do believe that some bars are still racially exclusive toa degree. Meaning that would like a certain type of cliental and will try to disuade someone of another ethic group from entering. BUt .... it seems that those clubs are far and few between. Things seemed to have losened up since 3 years ago.
Again, glad to hear you were able to enter the club.
