To all you lucky enough to live in Bangkok, what Go Go bars play mostly 80s Pop music? This board has the best and most up to date info, so thanks to all the posters. I will be arriving again in 18 days. Ya Hoo!!!

Most bars play "older" music.. there is such a variety, that it would be hard to give you a list of bars and what they play. They tend to mix up the music a lot.

Some sort of stick to the same type of music, but others seem to change based on the mood of the DJ ..

Generally, the music is too damn loud in most go/gos

You will hear Hotel California everywhere you go ... and if you like the song, you may grow to not like it as much ..

Bkk also seems to go thru fads with music. When I first started going to Thailand Madonna was all the rage, now you don't hear much of her anymore..

Then it was "Broken Hearted Woman" and then "Macarena" .. lately I have not noted any real fads, but give them time..

I spend more of my time at Cowboy as it suits me better than NEP or PP .. Midnite has pretty good music and even throws in a bit of Thail music too..

Last trip a friend and I went to Suzy Wong and we were both impressed with the music selection as much of it was "bluesy" and nice.. and when we asked them to turn down the volumn, they did..

As a side note.. if more people asked them to turn down the volumn, they might start doing it .. The Thais just don't seem to notice how loud the music is..

On the other hand if you don't want to talk to the girls or your friends, then how loud it is doesn't matter that much.

Persoanally if I owned a go-go a large %age of the music would be Thai...the girls seem to be so much more alive when Thai music is played......the one particular song that always seemed to do it was Luknok Supaporn - Khun Lamyai....a great one for bringing life to a place

Oak,
that's a pretty good observation.  I have felt too that bar music is always too loud and doesn't allow you to converse either with friends or strangers or BGs -- which is what one likes to do most of the time in the bars.  You are right about Hotel Calif. Also heard at several places on my last trip was "Satisfaction."
Several bars have live bands and that does raise the enjoyment levels, specially when they are eager to take requests from guests and do not mind audience participation in singing or playing the instruments.

I have spent a lot of time in Cowboy bars too, specially the Country Road which has a live band every evening and night. The selection is generally rock and country, and some golden oldies. The Country Road-II at Asoke (same owner) plays rock. Radio City at PP also has a live band and plays rock. There are several bars in PP that feature live bands -- your night is made beautiful even if you choose music over go-go's. And the BGs in these joints are, I have noticed, quite up-to-date on music, so you will have wonderful company too.

I dunno .....  but in the past few weeks I keep hearing the Ketchup song several times every nite.

About the volume, I always find it very loud at the beginning, but after 1 hour in the same place it doesnt seem so loud. I guess one gets used to it and the brain starts getting better at discerning conversation from the background music ... or maybe it is just the drinks that make me believe that I am understanding what the other person is saying

its very hard to find 80's music at most bars.
what i do is to stay tuned to 102.5 fm every saturday
from 10:00pm to 2:00am (Sunday). All 80's music
and you can request songs as well.

just missed those music from duran-duran, power station, simple minds, tears for fears, etc......
