Carnival bar re-opened (tonight, I think) after renovations. The major change is on the left side (from the entrance).
They replaced the catwalk with a mechanical bull, similar to the one in "Urban Cowboy" - TB 90 per ride. Could be a hit! Had some drunken farangs, barfined TG's and BG's giving it a try tonight. Should be even better when the BG's are wearing fewer clothes.
The BG's have been somewhat 'upgraded' compared to the past year or so.

DrLove and I went to Carnival last night. 10:00pm, almost no customers, 1 or 2 good looking girls, the rest not so hot. Good rock and roll music playing, a little loud.
The minute we sat down, two BGs came over to us and sat with us. I hate this. The BG DrLove talked to said that the place is empty every night.
I wanted to leave about 1 minute after I walked in. YMMV

hi all
i was in LOS last year about june and had the pleasure of experiencing a young girl at Carnival in NEP
was 600 bf and 2,000 ST (yes I know that is very high for ST but she was damn fine looking in the dark of the bar and under the bright lights of my room) :eyecrazy:
her name was "nam" and she had HUGE tits, nice face, 18 yrs and was a mix of thai/japanese
does anyone know if she is still there?
has over there got any better...kinda dead at times

Dropped by Carnival last night and ordered a Singha with a friend.
Took one sip - bad beer. Vinegar taste. Must be old. But, I could be wrong.
Took another sip. Definitely bad. I'd just come out of Angelwitch, and had drank two good Singha's there. And another two at Corleones before that. I know what Singha should taste like, and that wasn't it.
Called a girl over, told her the beer was bad, asked for a new bottle (did *not* ask for it to be taken off the check). We talk in english, talk in thai. She takes a taste of the beer, says something bad in thai, and runs off to talk to someone.
Next-level of management (mamasan?) comes over. I talk to her about the beer. It's bad. I want a new bottle. My friend talks to her, we want a new bottle.
Mamasan calls the manager over. We talk about how the beer's bad, and I won't drink it. How I want a replacement. How I'm not asking for it to be taken off the check, just a new bottle. (I repeatedly used the expression "kuat mai" while putting that one on the table next to us.). He asks if he can have a taste - trys it and judges it to be acceptable. No replacement.
Then he indicates that the bottle has had too much consumed from it, and puts it back in front of me.
Just how much was left? Before the girl took a sip, the level had reached the curve of the bottle, still 1-2cm above the label. After she and the manager had drank some, it was at the top edge of the label. Apparently that's too much. He wouldn't budge.
I paid the check and told him "I live in Bangkok. You just lost a customer." His english seemed good enough to understand that.
Humorously enough, just as he walked away, one of the girls that had been hanging out with BK and I during the last round table came over and greeted me by name. "sabai dee mai?" "Mai sabai loei."

Ahh,
So you were the topic of converation last night, I heard about that. me and a thai friend got there about 11;30- 12 or close to that and my thai friend was chatting with the or 1 of the managers about the bull and I took a sip of my corona and almost spit it back out...
seems the cooler was on the blink for a few days and got some 'skunky' as I would call it beer.
Now the funny part, I asked for another beer and the girl looked at me with the same no idea what I was saying to her look that she gave me when I first ordered my corona. So my thai friend asked whats wrong I told him in my explanation 'tastes f***ing mai aloi ' or nasty.
he turns to the girl and your same situation then happens but after the manager took a sip that was the end of the drama ( theres no way im drinking a beer after some guy I never met before in a bar thai or farang sips off it).
my friend orderd me a new beer and gave the manger my now half empty beer and says "you think is good ok my friend give to you'.
( the manager was trying to get a drink off me so I gave him the nasty one for himself)
Then a different service girl who I meet a while ago someplace else came over says hello and asks me about the beer ? I said yeah is ok now but before was not good, she tells me there was another farang complaining about the beer but he didnt want to buy a new one, he wanted a free one and was not happy about it. I asked why didnt you give him a new one and make him happy? she says to me in a straight face the manager says the beer is good so it must be..... HuH as I looked in total surprise of her anwser and just said check bin krup.
Can you say clueless...

Back in the late '90s Carnival was a fantastic bar, my favorite for a while. The double dildo shows on top of the double carousel stage are forever engraved in my happy memory bank. Then of course, Toxin took over and brought in Purachai as his first interior minister. Purachai's social order crusade started Nana Plaza on its long downhll slide, from which it has not recovered to this day.
To "compensate" for the Toxic damage done, while he was still prime minister, Carnival brought in their mechanical bull, to replace a stage where girls used to dance naked during the Golden Era, pre-Toxin. The bull is still in action, even tho a friend told me that a former colleague broke his back while falling off the bull last year.
I hadn't been in Carnival for a few years, but ventured in this evening because this is one of the few Nana bars that is complying with the no-smoking law. Indeed, the air inside was clean and breathable, a big relief after exiting the super-smoky Carousel Bar on the other side of Nana's top floor.
I was so relieved at being able to breathe inside Carnival that I bought a beer right away without asking about the price. Well, this is a Crown Group bar, so the beer price is top of the line 145 baht.
Are the girls top of the line as well? Well, no. In fact, they're not even girls. Sadly, Carnival has now joined the growing number of Nana bars that have katoeys (lady-boys) as gogo dancers, rather than real girls.
I've lost count as to how many bars in Nana Plaza are now katoey bars. I'm not happy to report that Carnival is now just another katoey bar, having sunk all the way to the bottom after its glory days before Toxin.
Of course, if you prefer lady-boys to real ladies, take heart. Nana Plaza has become even better for you.

This, more than anything else will be the downfall of Nana, eventually.
I fail to see the reason behind turning a perfectly good bar into a Katoey bar (except for the possibility that a Katoey manager brings all of her 'girls' in, with no regard for smart business sense.)
Then again, maybe it's the usual Thai business sense -- "There's always room for ONE MORE massage salon / optical store / Mobile Shop / etc..."

Those bar probably have an arrangement to get some out of date beers for cheap/free from factories and then sell them for top price to drunk tourists...
They are so happy to rip-off the farang and even happyer if you get sick later...
Such thing is not limited to Thailand, I remember being a bartender in a Holliday place in Europe and having my management forcing us to sell crates and crates of out of date cokes...I quitted that job after 2 days, not willing to be accused to willingly poison peoples...
