For all who are interested, here's a small update on the status of Asoke Plaza (Beer Bars) :
There are still a large number of bars open, most of them at the square Asoke Road-Sukhumvit Road.
Most of the bars at the Soi 23 area have been closed, with some (around 4) exceptions. The ladyboy bar is still open.
Lolitas (both the bj and beer bar) has been closed (as reported earlier by Deep File). It seems that the owner of Lolitas has moved because of conflicts with the police.
Some girls of the bars already closed down seemed to have picked up work in the lesser known bars around the Rajah hotel (Soi 4).

I guess most of the girls from the beer bar have not been transferred.
Most of them are probably not capable (or willing) to do the on premises activities.

Any idea why those 4 bars are still open? or is it just a matter of time?
Its a shame as I had many a happy an eve in those bars in Soi 23 and RIP the worst pool table in the world!!!
But used to be a laugh playing there and watching the LB's work there customers............

All the bars at the soi 23 side are gone except for two closest to the parking lot (the ladyboy beer bar and the one next to it).
Also Oh Yes on the other side of the parking lot is still there. The rest is all gone.
One bar in the main Asoke side lot is gone (contract expired).
Rest is doing business as usual....

No idea. I've talked to some owners, but no definite reply. Seems there is no hurry though with only one bar closing down....

Spoke to the owner of Popeye bar last week and he said they had another year before they were being closed down.
He has bought a hotel in Jomtien and is getting out of the bar business.
He also said that the Thai owned establishments were being hit just as hard as the farang ones with the ongoing social crusade.

FYI Popeye is not owned by a farang, it's owned by his wife (a Thai). He has no stake at all.
He didn't buy a hotel, she leased a guesthouse. And the owner, his wife, is planning to make another bar inside the guesthouse.
And the social crusade has nothing much to do with Asoke Plaza (as it wasn't with soi 10). It's just a matter of a new hotel coming up on Soi 23 and the parking lot has been sold to the hotel.
It's welcome to the authorities, however.
