Hey brother Droz, just check the main page under forum topics where it says GoGo bars and bars. There are several threads there concerning beer gardens. Now just for the record there are beer gardens and then there are beer bars. They're basically the same kind of venue except that beer gardens are where freelancers usually hang out and beer bars are more of a pub like venue with pool tables and dart boards. If you're looking to save some baht on things like bar fines then you're probably better off at the beer gardens like the one on soi 7. Lots of freelance ladies and no bar fine. Peace

Hey, BK, what do you call those things that pop up every year during the cool season that are sponsored by the major breweries and have live music, normally in places like the front of the World Trade Center? I would call those beer gardens, although they are nothing like the beer garden on Soi 7. Those are more for people to go out and celebrate, but there's often attractive young ladies out there. Whether you can strike up a conversation may be a separate issue. Anyway, thought I'd toss that out in case that's what Droz was referring to.

Temporary beer gardens? Makeshift beer garden? Whatever you call it, it is at the World Trade Center. Yes, that is good place to meet up with pretty girls too.
By the way, there are other beer gardens to pick up girls. You could also try outside the Ambassador Hotel, although I prefer the Soi 7.

Suggest you forget about the issue about which races patronising hot spots whether they are Black, White, Yellow or Red. You will be treat alike there. LOS is not a land of Prejudicism. Be relax where r u in LOS and enjoy yourself.

Hey brother Kiama, I second brother Casanova's suggestion. I happen to be a black man from America and I never once had any problem in LOS because of my race, and I went bowling at the Grace hotel one night during my last visit. You should have no problems from anyone in LOS because of your race. Relax and have fun and if you're there last week of Sept. I'd be happy to buy you a beer at soi 7 beer garden. Peace

Thailand has a remarkably tolerant society, of that there is little doubt. But if we can acknowledge that racism takes many forms and may not be overt, then when one really gets to know Thais (speaking to them in thier nlanguage or when they are speaking ungaurdedly) one learns that tragically racism is a trait that all humans are potentially susceptible to (anthropologists call it "fear of the other" and note its prevalence in EVERY era , every social structure). It is especially sad to me that even ethnic groups who have long suffered from the cruelties of racism are no less likely to be racist themselves.
Here in Thailand BTW as little as 10 years ago some bars on Patpong would not allow people of African or Indian descent to enter. (That may still exist for all I know). Racism here is relatively "benign" (if such a thing as benign racism were posssible); even Thais who will say something disparaging about black people for instance don't seem to realize that they are doing anything wrong and there is doesn't seem to be any real malice intended. Of course this doesn't make it any less disgusting to me.
It's interesting that despite all the ills Hollywood/ American culture has brought to the third world, the influence of MTV and movies has changed Thais perception of what is "cool" and admirable. Because many American cultural icons are black, the Thais have become more likely to veiw black people in general without the distortion of bias or prejudice.
It goes without saying that Thais, like any other nationality, are individuals with different attitudes and I am speaking in general terms.

On the issue of some bars not allowing certain race or nationality to enter their premises, it all comes down to the white farangs who impose this rule on the bar manager. The manager got to comply with the white farangs otherwise he will lose thme as regular customers.
