Gay area in BKK is Silom/Surawong roads.On Silom soi 2 u can find gay disco's like "DJ Station" etc.Silom Soi 4,there're many pubs with "mix" gay/straight crowd.About "go-go" bars and renting someone from there,I really dont know,I think it's couple of places like this on the corner of Surawong/Rama 4.Complete answers to your questions you can find on the net:

If you're talking about something like a gay gogo bar, then they'll welcome you with open arms as long as you have money to spend. You probably wouldn't want to go into a regular gay bar (i.e. where gay people meet to hook up with each other) just to gawk; I assume Bangkok has those, but I wouldn't know where to look.
I suppose if you're really not looking for companionship and you go in by yourself you might have difficulty getting the boys to keep their hands off you in many places. There are apparently many websites that target gay men visiting asia that might help; sorry, I don't know off hand what they are.

I took a couple of ladies over to "the other" side of Suriwongse Road one night after a Nanapong Dance competition. They're logic was that I got to see the girls dance, now they wanted to see the boys. This is on one of the sub Sois roughly across from Patpong. It's a small street with a lot of bars with men for men. There was no dancing, just sex acts and guys in speedos posing on a stage. I insisted that one of the girls stay on my lap the whole time to keep me from getting too many offers. It's certainly different, and I'll take a look most anywhere once, but not my scene. It shouldn't be hard to find.
