Hi,
Lately I noticed that BG's rather have a tip (cash in hand) then buy them a lady drink.
For me no problem, but I wonder how they get a away with this with the bar owner / mamasan.
Is there a cut between them also ?
They will make the same money, but save the cost of the drink.
This might be not new, just an observation of what I experienced lately in GG-bars in NEP especially.
Also a lot of the BG's don't mind to give their mobile phone number, good idea with all the quiet days coming up, like the 3 days bar closing on 29-30-31 (will that really be enforced?) and elections at the 6th of February.
Don't misunderstand me, I respect all this.
But I was in Pattaya in March and then I had the bad luck of all the bars closed in the weekend I was there, I called up a girl I knew and had a good time with her.

There are several advantages to tipping:
1 - First, you can set a time limit with the girl. Eg I give you 100 baht if you stay here for at least an hour.
If she goes to another guy within the limit you save 100 baht.
2 - If she receives 100 baht, that is more than 2 drinks.
Some bar managers/mamasans are of course familiar with this practice, but some will allow it, some don't.

Forget to mention that I also had some bad experiences with buying a LD, the girl will just sit with you for 5 min and then had to go dancing again.
After she will not return but hook up with another punter at the oher side of the bar to do the same practise !
Some other observations:
+ Most BG's like like tequila, amazing how much glasses some of them can drink. They told me tequila is ok, but beer or whisky will get them drunk very quickly.
+ When a BG wants a whisky or voBKa mix, they might 'forget' to put the booze in the glass, but you pay for the mix. So have a nip of it to make sure you don't get ripped off. This applies to the tequila issue also !

Tipping for sure. That way all the money is for her as well and nothing for the bar.
I despise the whole "It’s my turn to dance now" workflow anyway. What is the idea behind it? You can’t buy her a lot of drinks, because she runs off after 10 minutes. I get annoyed waiting for her until she is finished dancing.
Nostalgia speaking again, but in the Philippines when you want a girl, she comes of stage IMMEDIATELY and STAYS with YOU tell her to leave. Even if you only buy her one drink.
Really, I am interested in the idea behind the dance shifts.

Of speak Thai so you can hold her attention for longer than 5 minutes. Remember, you're just the next one....
Tequila is the best reason to leave your table sooner. Plus it's more expensive...

I know of a punter who bar fined a girl and had no intention of taking her out of the bar and tipped her 100 bht in stead of a LD and she gave him a massage for a couple of hours and because she was bf'd she didn't have go and dance, just another suggestion.

Good point beefa but remember - you pay the bar fine you are square with the bar. You still need to work out some financial settlement with the girl. Whether is a massage - dinner & a movie - or straight to the short time hotel she needs compensated for her time.
I personally put 100 baht notes in their hot little hands rather than lady drinks. Totally agree that if you are buying lady drinks it is annoying that your girl has to get up & go dance. TIT.
Remember many girls can do multiple bar fines in one shift. They may not HAVE to return to the bar but many will in hopes of snaring another fish.

Thanks for the info on bypassing the middleman. I'll admit that I've always just bought (or not-bought) the LD's and never really considered just tipping outright instead. As already stated, the drinks rarely have much if any liquor in them and some girls just gulp 'em down before running back to the stage anyway. Might also have to check out the Philippines at some point.

I prefer to tip then to pay for LD's simply because the girl gets more and I pay less......As DrL pointed out, some bars will allow it and others won't. One bar the girl insisted on a LD and thereby turning down the offer of 100 baht tip. Not sure if this is because of the bar or because the girl has been stiffed on it before by a punter leaving while they are dancing.
Most LD's are just orange juice or flat fanta out of a 2 litre bottle. Worst case I've come across is a gogo in Pattaya (the one under Polo) where the girl ordered a LD and a "cocktail" arrived. The price of the "cocktail" was 190 baht. The "cocktail" consisted of flat coke and whipped cream in one of those little shot glasses.
Told the mamasan she could stick it (after stating checkbin and waiting 10 minutes for mamasan to come over when I refused to pay). Would have paid it if there was SOME alcohol in the bloody thing......but decided they could stooge some other sucker on it. Only paid 90 baht as I did agree to a LD.
However in saying ALL that....buying the LD and "have to go dance now" can be a good starfish detector......

Maybe it's just a convenient means for the girl to break free of a punter she doesn't want to be with - "I go dance now..." (disappear)
