I've been reading info on the Songkran festival. This year, it goes from April 12 to 14 and many Thais go home for the holiday. I was planning on being in Pattaya during this event, but being it goes for a week there, I think I'll stay in Bangkok. There was one thing I couldn't find. Since the holiday starts on April 12, a tuesday, does this mean many tgs leave early the weekend before or take time off through the weekend of the 16 and 17? I figure there will be some selection, though more limited, and the fl should be there. Thanks.

In Pattaya, the main wet Songkran part is on the night of April 18 and the day of April 19 ending at 6 or 7pm on the 19th. I think it is a day earlier or later in Jomtien (next town south). I have been in Pattaya the last 2 years and only got soaked those 2 days. I think the week refers to the area and official events. On my first year experiencing Songkran I was wet for a week because every area I went to had Songkran a day or so later than the previous one.
I didn't notice any TG's going home at all in any of the places I was. In fact, Phuket and Pattaya were busier. I have not done Bangkok though.

From previous years experience...during Songkran..there are plenty of TGs to go around the increased numbers of tourists that come to Thailand during this period. I have however noticed that the number of girls seems to drop for the following two weeks after Songkran. I spoke to my girlfriends about this and it seems that just after Songkran is a usual time for staff to go home (to the rural areas or wherever) and have a rest period with family and friends.

I was in BKK last songkran. It was a blast. Get yourself a huge water gun and go hang out on soi cowboy during the day. Tons and Tons of people there having a great time, being soaked and partying. There is never a shortage of women or partying in BKK.

If you stay in BKK go to Soi Cowboy in the afternoon and enjoy the water sports. Wear shorts, tee shirt and sandals with money in plastic bag and you will have a ball. Met one of the hottest bargirls ever two years ago during the afternoon frolicking on the weekend. Was there last year also and no shortage of girls. Some of my old favs not around but plenty of new ones.

Thanks for the information. I'll make sure to protect my wallet from water, etc. According to herodotis, the main wet days for the festival in Pattaya are on April 18 and 19. Based on earlier posts on this holiday dating back 2 years, they said it was wet in Pattaya for a whole week and a few days in Bangkok. The dates this year seem to vary from place to place according to

What are the actual dates this year in Bangkok and Pattaya that they spray water, etc. It seems that the actual days of celebration are different from the official holiday dates.
