This place deserves a thread of it's own because, to me at least, it's one of the highlights of the resurgent soi 7/1.
Down Under is run by a very friendly (and always on site) ex Aussie Rules Footballer called Rob. Evidently he bought the entire 5 story shophouse and opened this bar a few months ago. Inside is a huge tv screen for sports etc, but the real delight of the bar is the 'courtyard' with several tables which lets you watch the sights of the soi, including the punters and girls heading into and out of Eden Club.
Beer prices are relatively cheap (60 baht in happy hour 6-8pm), and 80-100 baht normal times, but at the moment he has a great deal going which is all you can drink local beers (draft or bottled) for 500 baht.
And if you get there between 6-8pm, he's serves customers with an Australian Barbeque to help the beers go down. It's free if you buy two drinks.
The girls seem nice enough. He says he only hires girls with good English.
I hope this place makes it. So far it looks good and he says he has a lot of repeat customers.
(and, for the record, no I have no interest in the place, financial or in any other way).

I saw it being praised at the weekly nation column.
sounds like a great venue for a future RT to me. for sure better then pedros.
is the 500 baht deal just lasting for 2 hours?? if so it might not be such a great deal.

I completely agree that it could be good venue for future RT meeting. I was thinking just that last night.
RTB, the 500 baht deal is for as long as you like, all day and every day, irrespective of happy hour. I expressly asked him that. Obviously it only applies to your drinks tab (you can't share it between a few friends) and it doesnt include lady drinks. He told me you can come at 11am and keep drinking all day until closing time, and if you stick to the local beers it would only cost 500 no matter how many you put away.

I was in this bar Tuesday and enjoyed the barbecue. I've done a search (unsuccessfully) before posting here and another member has done a Google search as well. Does anyone know if Down Under Bar has an email address? Thanks.
