That is it for me. I will not be back. I’ve had my final insult in the Bangkok bar scene. Not many people – if any – will consider it a loss, but the likelihood of seeing me again in a BKK girlie bar has been reduced to nil. As dotcom pointed out in reply to one of my first posts, most of the bar scene is for tourists looking for a fast, low-quality snack.
In the whole of the BKK go-go bar scene, there was only one bar that was still within the realm of my grace. This is the story how Dollhouse also lost its already shady position. This is the story how it also crumbled under the common pest of the Bangkok bar scene: shameless, mindless money hunger and flagrant negligence of customer satisfaction
As is my wont on the occasional evening, I went into dollhouse with a friend before heading to Q. We fool around with our regular girls, buy them a couple of drinks and decide to barfine 3 girls for the 2 of us. We pay the barfines and say we will be back for the girls at 1AM (after we get back from Q).
The girl I barfine is a regular of mine, I have spent many days and nights with her: she has cried on my shoulder on numerous occasions. We go to the seafood market after her work and she cooks for me at her apartment. I taught her son how to shoot hoops. She comes to my place to cuddle after work. I help her brother with his math. I still slip some in her purse now and then because she has a kid, but she would refuse if I gave it to her. All this to say that this went a little beyond your normal BG – customer relationship. At least, that’s what I thought.
At around 0030 I get a call from this girl (a woman actually, at 27 she is one year my junior) saying that she will give me back the barfine because she can’t go with me tonight. Some guy wants who wants to take her out of the bar is here and she was actually not supposed to be working (same story again and again, the poor guy). I am a bit disappointed, but what can I do? We head back to Dollhouse at 0045, just to find out that 1 of the other barfines has simply disappeared and 1 doesn’t want to go LT any more (as was previously discussed).
So, 3 LT barfines turn into 3 broken promises and only 2 refunds.
I don’t want to make a big fuss about it, but decide to have a chat with the farang manager anyway.
Now, this is a guy who sees me at Dollhouse at least 4 times a week, bringing in new customers, spending money on drinks and barfines, while diligently controlling the inter-girl jealousy. The first thing he tells me is that it is actually his day of and he just came in to pick up some stuff. (Right. How very convenient.) My meaningful silence hereupon incites him to have a chat with the girls anyway. Well, the 2 of them, as 1 has just disappeared. After a small chat, he tells he can’t see what the problem is, because we got our money back. (Not entirely true as the LT-ST conversion didn’t refund)
The manager’s argument was that the girls and the bar lost money by waiting for us all night, because they stopped dancing and hence got no more drinks from other punters. Which is obviously high level bullshit: they can keep on their uniform, dance and sit with customers and get drinks while waiting for us. It is THEIR choice to put on their street clothes and wait for us outside the bar.
On top of that, we barfined them at 2230, so there wasnt much of the night left anyway.
I left him with an “Ok, mate. Don’t worry about it” and a look that would not be misunderstood.
The fact that he shows no interest in sorting out this matter in a more business targeted sense is beyond me. The rampant and blatant disrespect towards loyal customers is truly incomprehensible to me, both from a business and a human perspective. Again, it is not about the money, it is about the complete and utter negligence for customer satisfaction.
The old-timers here will say: you got your money back and walked out, what is the problem?
My problem is that I didn’t have a pleasant experience. The complete absence of any sense for customer satisfaction leaves me with a sour taste. I go to a bar to have fun, not to double-check if my bill is correct, to get disrespected without any reason or to deal with broken promises and partial refunds. It seems having fun a bar in Bangkok is impossible, unless you are as cold-blooded as the people who work in them, just to deal with all the heinousness and vileness of human vultures.
Although I understand “my” girl’s decision to choose for the *potential* way out (something I told her from the beginning I would never do), I find her behavior morally despicable. (No way to avoid the oxymoron.)
I guess it comes down to the human factor of keeping one’s word - and my obvious mistake of expecting adherence to gentlemenship in a brothel.

Hyper,
it has been said thousands of times here on this board, the gogo girls are the worst "runners"......they all work the multiple ST angle and really do not want to do LT unless you are someone special or specially "generous". I thought you have been lucky at Qbar with the FL's, then why you want to BF 3 girls at the gogo bars and then head out to QBar ? Try soi33 sometimes, I think girls there are slightly more "reliable" than the gogo's.

and you admitted that you actually care for her. well, nothing wrong with that, I suppose.

For a guy who professes to dislike the girly bar scene and is not the greatest fan of bar girls.... well 4 times a week to Dollhouse seems pretty good going (roughly the number of my visits to NEP and SC combined for the whole year)... as for the BG GF that is all rather sweet.

The most pertinent thing about Hypershade's thread is in the last sentence. Why would anyone expect honesty and integrity and gentlemanly behaviour from a hooker and her pimp?

In the last years the attitude and business etiquette have been changed for the worst.
The first 5 years of my visits to Thailand (about 15-20 years ago) you could easily make an appoinment with a girl and meet her in a restaurant after 2am. Even if she could find someone who was willing to pay the barfine, she would usually stick to her first agreement to meet at 2am.
Then bar owners started to charge barfines even when a girl was taken along after work.
The norm is now that girls have to try to make multiple barfines within one night. A friend of my girlfriend said that employees of 'Spicy Girls' (SC) have to return to the bar or elsewise will be cut in their salary. Long time is virtually out of the question.
The result of greed....

umm, why didn't you take the girls to Q-bar with you? You are setting the whole thing up for failure by hoping they will stick around. BG's are very unreliable.
They probably thought you were disinterested and were not coming back. A punter in hand is worth 2 at Q-bar.
