Stopped in last night and was warned by a girl I know that a new mama san was brought in to increase the profits because there have been so few customers. Girl warned that this new mama-san specialized in padding bills etc. Sure enough after two drinks mamasan brings me my third and it is the wrong drink. She tells me I ordered it and me and the girl on either side of me are almost laughing, not only did they hear what I ordered, but everyone in there knows I always order the same thing. Mama-san then told me I had to take it becuase she could not bring it back after it was poured. I just smiled and told her I did not order it, and please bring me my drink. She then comes back with my drink and 120 baht, telling me she has to keep it on the bill and that she is paying for the drink out of her own pocket, still insisting that I ordered the drink. I said ok and put the money in my pocket. It basically went on like this for the next hour, and when I did get up to leave the bill was about 700 baht over what it should have been.
Truth is I don't really care, I just won't ever go back. Whole thing was so obvious it was almost funny. Girls sitting with me were pretty shocked too, they both hate this new mama-san and are leaving the bar very soon, to follow the other cuties who have already left.

Now I understand why.

Thanks for the heads-up - and similarly to others re. other ripoffs.
Ripoffs go far beyond the few baht involved - they really spoil an otherwise great night, and if it happens too often can spoil a great vacation. Vis-a-vis the transportation mafia of Phuket which is having a real negative effect on tourism comeback there.
It would be nice if there were a way of letting the owners of bars, hotels, restaurants, massage parlors, etc. know that they risk losing not just that one, but thousands of potential customers who are so instantly wired in to ripoffs/user-unfriendly attitude by their staff.
I realize in saying so that the above is an idealistic thought, and that there are almost as many reasons to just let it go after posting complaints, but it would actually be a service to owners as well as to the customers here.
An excellent example of world class management style is Eden's, with the outstanding scrutiny and quick corrective action (and therefore seldom needed) by Mark. There are other good examples of owners well tuned in to Forum concerns, i.e. Swiss Grottino, etc. I don't suspect any of them would say that their oversight of the Forum is having anything but positive effects on their business, even after sorting through the few unwarranted complaints.
So perhaps owners of other popular venues could be similarly offered membership in the Forum - to everyone's advantage. Just an idle thought.

The old mamasan is working Holloywood Strip. "Jan" is still great and will hook you up. I have gone out with her and the girls from Fantasia and always fun. The new one is a Katoey by the way.

There are two new ones, the one I am talking about is not the Katoey. However the girls also told me that the Katoey Mama-san demands all the girls tip her one hundred baht when they get bar-fined.
I agree it would be better for all if owners new that a quick baht now, mean losing 100 baht tomorrow, but that is just not how a lot of Thai business owners see things.

Second floor on the right. As you walk into NEP turn right up the stairs, turn left. I think it is about the second or third bar. Not a large place but was nice for a drink (sounds like it is not anymore)
