I just received an e-mail update from Mekhong Kurt, presently in the states, that George Pipas passed away on Tuesday afternoon at the age of 86. George was the owner of the Lone Staar Saloon in Washington Square, and had spent almost fifty years in Bangkok according to Kurt. He was a real character, and "held court" daily in his pub while he was still healthy enough to do so or not overseas. He had quite a circle of expat friends, but still found the time to talk to and entertain tourist newbies like myself. He will be sadly missed by all.
Rest in Peace, George.
