Yes, good beer is secondary to good women, but there's no reason not to strive for the ideal. The idea would be to create a comprehensive list of fun bars that carry non-standard beer in Bkk. My criteria for being on the list is: 1) the beer must be rare (i.e. other than the standard Singha, Carlsberg, Kloster, Chang, Leo, Heinekin and Corona) 2) the bar must be a gogo bar, beer bar, pool bar or someplace else (e.g. a disco) where there are available women (perhaps freelancers), this is to exclude places like Dubliner, Shenanigans, etc. My information is negligible and perhaps not up to date, but we have to start somewhere. I know I've been to other places, but good beer tends to be very sneaky and tries to erase all memory of its existence. (Of course, I remember the places with bad beer well enough.) Guinness Woodstock - NEP ~260B/can Brunswick - Soi 4 ~250B/can

Our Place on Soi Cowboy supposedly sells a German wheat beer, haven't tried it personally. I do recall finding a place that sold Guinness or some other nice pint on Soi Cowboy when I was walking through there during the day a few years back. At night I get distracted by the girls (either attracted to them or more often trying to avoid their clutches) and don't notice the beer signs.

Had "sol" & "tiger"(does this count!) in Country Road II, also canned Guiness which was undrinkable. Not much else going for this place apart from the occasional quest beer, so probably doesn't qualify as a fun bar, unless you are really pissed!

I count CR2 as a "fun" bar, even though I've only been there once and didn't care for it. By "fun" I didn't mean to imply quality, just that there were women available for flirting, groping or outright humping. I didn't mind the Guinness in the can the few times I've had it (the bottles aren't bad either, but it's a bit weird, IMO). It's not as good as on draught certainly, but it's still a lot better than the alternatives. (I usually only have one of these, due to the relative expense.) I'm not familiar with Sol, is that the Mexican beer? I suppose I'd have to list it, even if I don't like it. (I didn't list Corona just because there are dozens of places that carry it now. AND I don't like it ).

Heaven? To me it's extremely dangerous. Drinking Singh or Kloster is self-regulating; it tastes so bad that I can't drink it fast enough to get drunk off it. A good beer on tap with loose women around would cause me to either get a ring around my finger or around my neck.

Ha ha ha!! Aren't they one in the same?? Ring on the finger could translate to one aroun the neck!! ha ha ha ha!! And this might be sacralegious, but I also like at times a "Black and Tan". Have not found a place that could accomodate that in BKK yet. ** For those non-beer drinkers, a "black and tan" is a mixture of Bass and an amber beer together!! **

A black & tan is half Bass Ale and half Guiness stout, and very preferably the Guiness ought to be from tap (draught). The secret of Guiness draught is that it is pressurized with nitrogen and CO2 not just CO2 and that's why the pleasant head lasts forever. The beer head, that is, and not the all to brief BJ that might accompany it. I think the Irish bar on Soi Convent (whatever the new name is) has draught Guiness, probably O'Reilley's does but I have never been in there -- O'Reilley's is a plastic faux-Irish chain out of Singapore and thus is about as Irish as Seamus Wong the Mandarin speaking leprachaun. Bottled Guiness is pure shite, except in the UK and Ireland where they sell it with a 'widgit' nitrogen injector that replicates the head of draught, and that is good drinking Guiness. You can replicate a Black&Tan with another porter or stout but it won't be "right". Over to you, ABC. "Oh well do I remember that black September day when the landlord and the sheriff came to drive us all away. They set the thatch on fire with their cursed English spleen And that's another reason I remember Skibereen..."

chateaujade: You are correct. It's been so long since I've had one!! ha ha ha!! Thanks for correcting me!! Well ... next time in BKK, if you find the place, the "black and tan's" are on me!! ha ha ha!! And I agree. Replicating a Black&Tan with another porter or stout but it won't be "right". Okay. It probably would taste like "C$%p"!! ha ha ha ha!!

I recall drinking a black and tan, think it was Soi Convent, not my part of town. Maybe the name was Shenanigans or something like that. Not far by foot from the Sala Daeng BTS. Very expensive, IIRC, about 200+ Baht per pint. Worth it as an occasional treat, I suppose. Now I just have to figure out how to make it there in synch with ABC so's I can let him grab the check.
