On soi 22 there is a new group of beer bars. Some open to the outdoors, but many air con'd too. This area has been developed over the last year or so. To get there go down soi 22 until you pass the entrance to Washington Square.. the area is on the right roughly across from the Queen's Park hotel. there are maybe 30 places ??
On my last trip I went there with a friend who goes there regularly and liked what I saw. We first went to an outside bar. There were not many girls at the bar, but as there were only three guys not a problem, esp as my friend brought his own. I spent a bit of time with one girl who was very cute. Another girl at the bar was with another guy and she was from the bust up a very, very good looking woman.
Then we went to the Sugar Shack which I liked to. Met a cutie named Gao (glass) and had fun. Music is good and not too loud. They have a pool table and quite a few girls. The bartender was a f_cking stunner but seemed cold as the ice she was serving. Maybe it was just me???
Many of the places have pool tables and darts.. they are more hang out type places than go pick up a girl right away. Moonshine Bar is owned by the same people that own the Silver Dollar at Washington Square and does a good business. On Friday/Sats they have BBQ'd hamburgers for B65 and frankly, it was the best burger I have had in Bkk (tho still not up to US standards for a really good burger).
I made two more trips to this area during my last trip and think that for those kind of tired of the go/go routine might like it. You can get there by BTS, go to Phrom Pong and then walk back to soi 22 (actually a bit shorter to cut thru Washington Square).. if not into walking catch a taxi and if traffic is not bad no more than B35 to get there.. easy to get a taxi out when you are done or else hoof it back to BTS.
There is a short time hotel right across the street. A bit low class, but the beds are comfy enough and there is aircon.

I think the soi 22 area will survive..
I have taken the path thru the park once, but I usually go to a place in Washington Square first ..
Not sure about the restaurant you are referring to, but there is a small place that has been there for some time that is very good .. haven't been there for a couple of years, but went with an Aussie friend who knew about it.. quite a small place ..
Also right there is a good place to buy fruit at reasonable prices to take with you ..
I get FF points at the ST hotel '-)

not sure it will survive. i know a girl who opened a bar beer in that compound and she is thinking about closing it again after sixd months of losses. as far as i know most other bars are also not or hardly profitable in there. it is just the lack of customers there! with so many alternatives around it will be a tough one to survive there!

Well bros. thats the last place I was in on my last trip 10 oct. 13 oct. befor I went back to nana hotel and picked up my last trio. As I posted befor I was poisend or drugged dont know if it was there or not but that's the last place I was at. A place called kats beer bar I think was the name(open air but deep inside the compound) of the place. Just in case watch your ass and your drink...

I'll have to check out that area too. I would think they would get an increase in business when the bars at Asoke and Suk. close down when the subway opens (which I would think they'd have to). One big disadvantage of this location is that it is midway between Phrom Pong and Asoke skytrain stations, so it wouldn't be high on my list of places I would go out of my way to visit (but if I were shopping at Emporium or something I might wander down).

one girl opened a bar there about six months ago, now she s desparate for partners to join, which equals to "no business", what she told me, the police walks in around midnight, tells her to turn off the music, or even close within the next 30 minutes.

This the place I mentioned a few weeks back. At the back of the plaza there is a nice open air restaurant with 2 cute waitresses (twins) - Apple and sister. Anyone tried their luck?

Yes, to run a "bar beer" around Asoke, they want 50,000 baht to open and 15,000 baht a month + the "bar beer" has to buy their own liquor. And I know that the customers are flat (i.e.: not many come in) because they usually come late night and then they have to close down. I think they should reconsider 4am closing times again....possible in the next few years if the "social order crusade" ends. When they close at 1am, the girls run to the packed discos for about 1 hour and then the discos close. (???)
Reality though, not many customers come in and those that do, don't stay very long. No girls to bar-fine (but the "bar beers" **DO** want to have girls for barfining....it means BIG MONEY)!! Unfortunate, but it is always promising when the time (or the law) gets changed to 4am, someday!
Let's hear it! 4AM!! 4AM!! 4AM!!
Source of information was from a girl I used to date and
"pay" who tried to run one.

I found this thread from a search, and note no recent comments. I visited this group of bars last October, when it was nicely busy but not heaving, and shall go again in 3-4 weeks. I liked 'New Friends': a very apt name. I even went sightseeing with some girls there, including shopping at the weekend market and buying a new suit!
On the last day, when I'd run out of money, I was taken to a new massage place run by a friend of the bar manager a few streets away, and definitely want to go back there with some lolly!
In view of the changes in the bar scene recently and economics, are they still there, and new friends in particular, as I've not had recent replies to my latest emails to 2 of the BGs there?
Is the BG at the bar near the road still there? I mean the one who might be described as a bit bonkers!
