Yesterday I received the "Thailand - Land of Beautiful Women" (Dean Barrett) book and there is a short section on "Nightlife as it was 21 years ago", mentioning Mississippi Queen and Texxas Lone Star.
So the idea was born to assign one night (yep, only 31 more days to go...) to sort of a "nostalgia trip", only attending those bars that have been in operation already in the mid-80s (and earlier of course). I think that will mostly be in the PatPong and Cowboi area...
Can someone from the more experienced bros help me with information on which bars these are?

Thigh Bar, Pink Panther (Patpong). But the interiors has been changed of both bars.
Actually, PP was the first bar I ever entered (1984). And my first encounter with an LB too that night.

other than the type of girls, King's corner is pretty much the same as it was many years ago..
Hog's in NEP has not changed much either... but NEP has changed radically since then.. used to be only a few bars there.. only one or two on the ground level and nothing on level three.. casanova was a small and dark place with maybe 1-2 LBs..
Nostaglia is not what it is cracked up to be..

I must agree with Oaktoad, nostalgia is not what it's cracked up to be.
My 1st trip was in 1971 and believe me, today is a million times better.
English really was a foreign language and the infrastructure - what infrastructure!!!
TG's were on a serious hunt for husbands and as everything was bb back yard abortionists flourished.
On the plus side, the food was better and everything was very cheap relative to today. I gambled, cheated and stole my way around for three months on $150 which is what I had saved for my big UK oe. Had to go overland to UK which was a drama as Burma was shut!!
No, today is fantastic, long may it continue.........

But girls were THB 500 all night (in Pattaya THB 200) and they were not as demanding and money grabbing as then.
Most girls would stay with you (and do your laundry) in return for food.
And the food was so cheap.... I used to buy a whole table (12 persons) a meal after 2am and the bill was still under THB 100.
Currency rates have increased though. The first time I used to get THB 6 for 1 Dutch guilder. Now it would be
around 18-20 baht.
I am for one longing back to these days.

First time I went to Bkk was in 1984.
A lot different then.A lot dirtier,with a strange smell on the air ( like rotten leaves or something). Few street lights, no road names in English,Silom very dark at night,only tall building in the area was Char Issihara.I stayed at Rose Hotel in Suriwong.From Patpong I remember only Thigh Bar,but it was different with the stage being at another direction near the door.
I think women in Patpong were a lot more beautifull at that time.Many stunners,difficult to find nowadays.ST 200, LT 400-600.I was was escorted many times by middlemen to visit the so-called lady-homes where you could pick from 30-50 girls for 300-400 long time.Many of these were very pretty.At that time the girls were generally younger with ages varied from 14 to 20.All-nude shows very common.

So I did this nostalgia thing about three days ago:
Pink Panther is quite hidden but a clean and nice place with great music and fair prices. The girl I talked to was a bit pushy reg. barfine, but I think it was due to limited number of customers in there. She told me they have a boxing show (men-men and women-women) obviously every night.
Goldfingers is a great place where you can feel the spirit from the old times (at least what I think it was like), girls are relaxed and funny, but not real stunners.
About Thigh Bar I do not remember too much because I was already too drunk, but there was no bill padding or sthg. like that.
Safari has more the character of a bar (limited stage dancing space) than of a gogo bar. Differentiating decoration, no hassel for drinks or tips. Seems it has not the usuall tourist-run-through clientele.
Finally I had a look at Electric Blue on Patpong 2: As I do not like EB in Pattaya it was not to difficult for me to dislike this one as well. Do not like the layout and the arrangement of tables etc. but the girls and prices seems to be average.
