My experience is that the girls working in most of the brothels are there to earn money for there families.Most I know are free to come and go ,some prefer to live there and feel safer with other girls around them.Sure they are being used , each girl will have to pay for her room and food at a higher price ,laundry will be done by the owners at a higher price , As I said somewhere one "brothel" I know in the sukhumvit area charges 750 baht shower and sex.The girl will recieve 200 baht for there sevice , then have to pay for there overheads ect.
Most come from the country as I did with no knowledge of Bangkok or the sex industry ,most return home broke ,some get lucky and marry farangs and enjoy a normal life ,some enjoy the work and stay .As they get wiser they move on and become more independant.
If you use the brothels or mp's in Bangkok Tip the girl in the room that way you know it has a good chance to stay in her pocket.

china town I would say stay clear of , I know some friends that have had bad experiences not with the clients but with the owners.
Visiting massage services , you may or may not know they are all run by the same man , many adverts in many magazines all with different phone numbers going to a set of telephones based in 2 or 3 rooms In the same condo complex.
There are independant services but I can assure you they get many bogus bookings , the girls get fed up and leave because of the lack of real work and end up back with there old company.
