remember the Thais i was working with getting very irate when I first came here, price of mehkong had gone up to 19 bt a bottle ! I was in Siricha, and highlight was my weekly trip to town, and stop over at the Grace, - almost presentable in those days ! - and of course TOP price for an LT was a " Purple" [ 500 bt.] - while the word condom never got a mention !

Thanks Mr Joe i knew it was the something Fox.Is it still there as i never go to that area of town these days?
You cannot compare the prices of those days as things were ridiculously cheap.I spent 3 months in THailand in 1980 and spent a little of 1 thousand dollars and had plenty of fun.
Went to Samui and stayed on Chaweng Beach in a sort of hut for 30 baht a night.There was a family cooking for us and there were about 20 people there .No hotels and no bars.That was Samui.And you know what the hippies were saying then that Samui was past it and it was better to go to Samet!!!

I haven't been down there for years either. Don't know if it's still there but it was as of approx. 6-7 yrs ago when I drove past.
Yeah I was on Samui about that time; similar deal rented from a family (same family?) & the daughter would bring my meals and take my laundry.

Long, long time ago, 72-73 in a galaxy far, far away. I was stationed in Saigon with the US Army Medical Corp in a small dispensary down town a few miles away from the 3rd Field Hospital where all the heavy brass lived. Just far enough away we only saw one officer on payday. We treated every GI's girl friend and if she had kids we treated them also (your tax dollars at work). If a officer came in and there were ten people ahead of him, he waited in line like everyone else. What this meant for us. If we got into trouble the MP SgtMajor had a standing order that before any paper work was filed he had to personely approve them. Any time we throw a party we had more mess hall Sgt giving us free steaks (they would come cook) and all the salad etc we needed. We had a onsite club with unlimited .25cent top shelf mixed drinks, beer was a dime a can. We could bring girls in for the night but they were not allowed to roam the compound alone. The girls cost less then $5USD that right 5 for L/T cut that in half for S/T. Back in the day SGT BiGDUSA was being paid $600. per month with no taxes being paid in a combat zone. I did'nt need vitimin V. O we could get almost 1 kilo of ass kicken pot for $17USD. Best year of my life!!!
