Some people are just intimidated by the different.
In HK many years ago my company sent out one of our employees from the UK to work for me on one of our projects.
I arranged hotels, a limousine from the airport etc. to make his arrival as easy as possible as I was busy that day.
I went around to his hotel the next morning to pick him up and take him to the office.
He had checked out!!! I looked high and low for him, teh airline confirmed he arrived, the hotel checked him in and six hours later he checked out.
I had a fax two days later.
He had spent two hours in HK and decided this was too much for him, that he did not want to spend any time in the sh_t hole. And he hadn't even seen the office!!!!!
He had taken the next plane home.
People never cease to amaze me. Ok, we all have different strokes but...........

It's not so much the issue of not being able to adapt, or being shocked (whatever!) by HK - it's the fact that he would not even give you the courtesy of calling you and informing you of his reaction, and his intentions.

the new wife of Falahng X in FalahngLand cares plenty...
While Falahng X was in LOS, he didn't partake of anything Thai except his new TG's fanny
now he's ignoring her needs for some Thai food & Thai style fun/comradery in Falahng X's home.
Imagine if you were here new hubby here in LOS and when you feel like a nice fish & chips or spaghetti she let you fend for yourself, including finding your way to the restaurant etc.
Yeah, you might be able to find that fish & chips restaurant just fine, but how many times will you sit there eating alone before one of the young Falahng chicks who frequents pulls up and seduces you...
I frequented a restaurant pub in Oz, Sydney actually, and there was a beautiful young TG who worked there. That's one of the reasons I went there every day, that and the Thai food was excellent.
No it wasn't a Thai restaurant, it was an English style pub, but they had banners outside announcing their Thai food lunchtime special.
The young ladies were shocked (yes, there were 3 TGs there) when I spoke Thai with them at first, and we became close within 2-3 days.
Lucky this time because the youngest, most attractive TG of the lot was also the most interested in developing a friendship. Her name was Ja. I remember after all this time, 10+ years...
I was walking her to the train station to go home every day etc.
We even kissed each other goodbye before the week ended and I noticed her looking about before she would commit to some lip action.
Ja admitted that she was newly married to a retired Aussie and that's who she went home to every day. This was after I already suspected as much and threw out the fact that she was looking for any signs of a tattletale before we kissed in public.
Then the floodgate came open. We sat and talked in a corner of the pub after the lunchtime feeding frenzy was over and she confided in me that her hubby was one of these non-adaptable types.
If she wanted Thai food, film, go to a Thai party etc, he was always either waiting for her at home, or propped up at the local footie club.
Ja proposed we go to my room that day at the train station vs. her going home. She had an English lesson to go to which she had canceled, so now there's some free time before she's got to be home to hubby.
I explained that my room would entail passing by the pub where she worked, so she took me out to another section of town where there were many Asians. Got a room and finally partook of the forbidden fruit they call adultery.
Pleasure first, guilt later, and she was ridden with guilt.
On the way back from our tryst she pointed out the local footie club where her hubby liked to come on a Friday night, and said we should meet there this Friday. Arrgh, we just boned, and now she wants me to meet hubby.
This is way above meeting the parents. Is she going to point her finger at me in front of hubby like they do in the Thai newspapers when pointing out the perpetrator ??
We should discuss further I say, and we shuffle past. The next day she's really showing that guilt. Wearing it like a badge of shame. Her girlie mates have guessed what happened, but we say nothing.
After asking her intentions of my meeting hubby Ja says that if he meets me and sees what a nice guy I am he'll trust me and we can be lovers in broad daylight anytime with no repercussions. hhhmmm, not really what I had in mind, but OK.
By this time I'm thinking I should have stuck with the P4P TGs out in King's Cross. Well most are Malay, but pretend to be Thai, great tits though.
The hubby is hospitable, about 3 times Ja's age, and not only is the age gap showing, so is the culture gap.
Ja wants to dance and have a good time, hubby asks me to oblige her as he's too old to get down on the dance floor.
Ja is a little hottie and have to keep in mind not to bump & grind with her while hubby is sitting 10 feet from us.
Ja hooked me up with another TG friend of hers, thank heaven. Pressure is off now.
We go our separate ways, and I take Mook, the new TG, into King's Cross for a good and proper piss-up finish to the night, and some proper knockin' of the boots finale, and wake-up call.
In the morning Mook tells me that Ja was spot on about describing me sexually. It's obvious that Mook knows that Ja & I had been together, and she had been Ja's target for me all along for the Friday night scenario.
Ah well, pressure is off us both now. Just to confirm that Mook & I are good to go, she meets me for lunch at Ja's workplace. Ja tells us she's so happy for us, like she's our Mother, and the next time I speak to Ja it's from the airport right before flying out of Oz to LOS.
We wrote some letters back-and-forth in Thai for a while, but it finally subsided. Maybe hubby found these letters from another falahng that were written in Thai (the return address was completely in English) and had a hissy, who knows ?

Well, that's it, the story of a good girl gone astray because of the likes of me, and I'm not all that charming...
This sort of thing is happening every day all over, USA, UK, EU, OZ, and even in the Middle East where the expat has his cutie new TG wife and she's alone when it comes to anything Thai in hubby's abode.

My best memories of the gals getting together and getting wild w/o hubby are from Southern California where the TG community can be insurmountable in some of the clubs etc.
Most times I'd be the only falahng in the group, and sometimes the only man. It was just too sweet. A few of my mates tried to hang out with us, but they didn't speak or understand Thai and were quite bored even though they were surrounded by hottie TGs.
After the piss-up, it's off to the Siam Restaurant in LA, or the Lao owned disco if in San Dog. There you consume Lahp, Gai Yahng, Kao Neeyoe mostly, but sometimes if it's still early you have a proper meal with a Tom Yum and a fish.
Then comes the pairing off with the male suspects so they can get their groove on and get home to hubby.
Such is the life of a bored TG housewife...

and to answer your question BigDUSA, the Ozzie TG was around same age as me,
the TGs in Cali were from all age groups, but the ones with military hubbies in SD were normally same age group as hubby, but in LA they were a lot younger than hubby cause they were Trophy wives for rich blokes...

hmmm ill weigh in here in hope not getten slammed... Some people that travel are to shy, some to rich and snoty, and some have been intimidated by some other cultures (white in damascus I found very intimidating). But I do think people should go with a open attitude, and not let one incident get you down. Try the food, drink the wine, learn a few words, I know a little hungarian, arabic, german, french spanish from my travels, well now I guess I forgotten most of them, but thats just my bad memory.
Its a 2 way street, ive seen some people pissed by seeing a tour bus pulling up, and the other side of being in the bus. But then again most places people are friendly either way, and its fun trying to explain things to someone who has no idea what your saying, or even drink with them! (columbians are great when there drunk, I can even understand them then!)
not all foriegners are closed minded and not all locals are open minded  Thats to bad for they guy who was not there a day, his loss I guess. but I dont think anyone should get sour, there is always a bad apple in every basket!
hmmmmm im sounding to intellectual for a nightlife forum... maybe I need more beer to lessen the smart talk I got going!
