My GF told me that a couple of years she was getting money out of an ATM on Soi 3 with her two (real) sisters and they were also 'arrested' by a single police officer.
They were taken to the police station and had to wait there for two hours to convince them that they were not 'working girls'. No fine.

Well, you probably don't know a lot of girls then. Because most girls will be very careful if they get a situation like this and they will cooperate as best as they can.

Your friend was arrested, handcuffed, transported to Police HQ for committing what crime?
Loitering? Solicitation? Jaywalking?
I guess TIT where you can spend a night in jail for suspicion of being a prostitute. NFA NVMS.
(no fixed address) (no visible means of support) Sad case really. I personally have never witnessed any false arrest of the kind described here. Thai's do kow tow to cops though.
In general Thailand is a free country where you are allowed to go about your lawful business without interference. (Read spend your money like a good little tourist).

My immediate thought is that the Beergarden itself could be behind this. The old lady behind the bar (is she the mamasan) seems to be close to the local gendarme - i've seen her chatting with them several times, including inside the bar.
And I've noticed that Beergarden has been a bit quiet on the last two or three times I've been in there.
I wonder if the two are related?

C'mon she did not look that old,,,40 + maybe,,,she's always sitted at the cash register with the light pointed to her desk avidly countin the stash and stampin some bills- papers...always busy as hell huh?sometime I order to her to just to interrupt those infinite paperwork.
