A lot of great local musicians play Thai country. Give it a try.

Blues Factory - Pattaya Beach.

Of course you haven't specified what genre of music you are interested in. Thai country music would not appeal to me. Issan catterwalling more like.

- Lumpini Night Bazaar (at Ratchadapisak subway stop) - Thai bands

- Tokyo Joe's, Suk Soi 24 (across from Ariston Hotel). Has Jazz or Blues - hit or miss type of place.

- Noriega's on Silom Soi 4 (type of music varies night to night)

I will agree about Blues Factory in Pattaya. I liked it.

I have done next to all of these places you all have said but it still lacks anything close to what is normaly on offer in a city of bangkok's size in another country.

I mean, I made my choice to live here, I could have chosen another country/city but this was it, I love it all except the live music

ITS PANTs!!!

who's buying the beers

CG, I like you very much as a person... But as a musician... well... me guess you are amature at best. Me suspect there are three levels of live music in Thailand:
- Fairly well (meaning not fantastic, but the level I look for, if no other high players are available)
- Average bands who could play a tune or two, but not very energetic.
- Poor: Well, enough said

My point is: In my small home-town I could get top-world-class perfomance every night. In Bangkok, a major town in comparison, this seems not to be the fact. Strange...

Good try, only nine stops out. On the tube you want Lumphini for Suan-Lum Night Bazaar. Ratchadaphisek is the stop before Lat Phrao heading for Bang Sue.

Give the Hard Rock Cafe a try next time. It is kinda cramped in there, but they normally have a really good rock band playing.

Erik, I would agree that I am not a good musician (or singer, you saw that when we went Karaoke.) But everyone's tastes in music are different. For example, some like country, some hate it, some like jazz, some don't care for it. Perhaps the fact that we live in Western countries has an affect on what we think is good or not.

I will agree that good live music is harder to come by than it should be in a city the size of Bangkok. And me thinks that nothing near Sukhumvit in in the "Fairly well" category.
