If you are going to eat at McDonald's in LOS, at least try the "spicy" fried chicken (not available in McDonald's in USA). Make sure you have plenty of fluids on hand to wash it down.

The bigger answer here is that some people travel well some don't.
As a matter of fact, most Thai's do not travel well. Having to accomendate many co-workers in travels in USA and other places. Most Thai's cannot adapt to local cruisine and must find Thai food.
I have also had to accopmendate so called "meat and potatoe" visistors here in LOS. I have to laugh as I had a visitor here two months ago who said he was a meat and potatoe guy and after returning from the buffet line that is all he had on his plate, meat and potato's. He was a happy customer.
IMHO the biggest pain to accomendate in the Muslim's with their strict diet requirements.

In Villa supermarket the other day there was an old Ozzie guy, must have been 75 at least. He was walking around yelling out 'any prunes in ere, any one know where the prunes are' and then 'ya got any pies in ere, any meat pies in ere'.

But seriously...I know one guy who's a linguist-anthropologist by training, reads, writes and speaks a couple of other languages besides English, married to a Thai and been living in LOS for 7 years. Thai isn't one of those languages he really speaks.
The reason he gave was because it is a language 'borrowed' and/or adapted from older, more established languages, with quite a lot of redundancies in everyday speech, and simply not as useful as some other languages.
(I'm only summarising what he said, not saying I agree with him)
So he doesn't bother to speak or learn Thai properly.
I detected an attitude of cultural snobbery there, based on intellectual/academic training. Another take on the 'some farangs can't adapt' thing.

If someone is on holiday he can eat WTF he likes!
Thais are far worse travellers, I know many thais here in farangland and I would say that 80% never eat any farang food in fact most of those dont even go to a thai restaurant because they eat only village food.
There are so many farang-thai couples that always eat separately.
Thank god my wife has learnt to enjoy farang food and, more important, to cook it; not that I dont enjoy her thai cooking.

You make me remind my mother in law...the day I saw her using my Italian Fettuccine to cook Phad Khee Mao cuz she run out of the original Thai noodles, I almost fainted and I was near to kill her.....but finally, I had to say that I really enjoyed that mix of Italian pasta and Thai cooking......classy!
