Usages that are an insult to logic and the language ought to be avoided, even if they have become common enough to receive the "blessing" of some dictionary or another.
There was a senior journalist who used to write books about the decline of the English language, but at the moment I am blocking on his name...whoremonger would have been a peeve of his I am sure.

You just rang a dusty old bell from the closets of my mind. I recall my English teachers of olde saying, "don't use 'irregardless,' use 'regardless.' " But I just looked up "irregardless" in Miriams Webster's and it's there, defined as "regardless." So maybe we are witnessing the decline and fall through pejorative use? And don't get me started on the "a, b, and c" series and how in recent years it has become the imprecise "a, b and c." Ha!

Well, Chataeujade, glad you've cleared up my incorrect assumption about you being a pimp- correct it is a misnomer for your 'job'. I will retract that. Though it would be interesting to see what your work permit reads.

There is one thing I'd like you to clear up. While reading your posts on this and other threads, it does seem you are fairly knowledgable regarding world events etc.,but why do you have to phrase your posts in such a bullying and lecturing manner?
Maybe you don't realise at the time of writing them how your posts come across. Try going back over some of your previous postings and reading them from a neutral point of view.
Is there a seniority system on this forum, Mr Joe?
That's the great thing about the net- everyone has an equal say. Regardless of their political, religious AND sexual leanings.
Well, with the obvious exceptions of citizens of nations that block free internet access. AND we can offer our opinions and comments on those matters, no matter how disagreeable you find those comments. Isn't that what having a free 'discussion' is all about?
Descending to the "f_ck your mother/father" level (Chateaujade, Chompoo) is as I said before, a real giveaway.
Also, I'm not sure how someone new to the forum has less of a say than an 'established' member- see paragraph 4.
Please feel free to pull me up on this if you feel I don't have a point. I'm sure you will.

Nope no seniority system, nor should there be. Though I tried to avoid suggesting that I believed such a thing I did expect you to point that out and it's a valid point.
I guess I think of it as a group of people hanging around and haveing a long discussion; People come and go and join in when they like. The people who have been in the conversation longer have had more opportunity to get to know the others and everyone has an understanding to try and cut each other some slack. Of course some people clash sometimes but generally allow each other their differences.
Then some one walks up and within a few sentences has already made a rather offensive personal comment about one of the others in the group. I wouldn't normally be too happy about the arrival of that person.
Let me be clear: My biggest objection (if it matters -- I know it doesn't) was not about the words exchanged with CJ or Chompoo. That's their battle and I should have stayed out of it. I objected more to the comment about the guy who enjoys cross-dressing. I would hope that there wouldn't be any limits on the "type" of people who can join in the board. As long as it's about activities between consenting adults I'd rather that we don't crreate a cliumate of judgmentalism or approbation towards people whose interests are more "exotic".
Anyway I appreciate the civil tone in your comment to me and I hope I've made myself a bit more clear if not more likable. Ý Ý;)
By allmeans let's have some honest dialogue which inevitably will lead to some disagreements. No harm in that per se, a good argument can be fun and progress is often derived from conflict. I agree with you that insults are best avoided but I also feel comments about someone's sexual activities are unecessary, unproductive and detrimental.

I forgot to mention in my "conversation" analogy that the topic of the converstaion is generally about something that we all enjoy discussing (Good times in LOS) and something that we aren't necessarliy able to discuss elsewhere. IMO there is an unspoken agreement that this commonality is perhaps the only one we share and it should be somewhat respected and allowances can and should be made (up to a point).
Why join in with a confrontational and "negative" attitude about any other members whom have tastes very different from yours?

Okay lets go with this for a bit.
Imagine the above situation in a physical context.
While this group of people are "hanging around (on a street corner, maybe?)having a long discussion", up walks a guy dressed in high-heels, flowery dress and a long wig and make-up put on with a spray gun. What's your reaction?
Say '' alright mate, how's it hangin?'' ? or even "fancy a beer?"
I don't think you would no matter how considerate you are.

I'll bet you did. I'll also bet that anyone who has lived in a society that by and large would not be accepting of their sexual preference ( a crossdresser for example) and who thinks they have found a place to be open, would not think it was funny at all.
Maybe I'm too PC but I just don't think that is appropriate.
And let's not forget after all, there are probably lots of us that might be into stuff that more conservative folks wouldn't. We wouldn't appreciate some fundamentalist Christian coming on and telling us we are all vile fornicators (OK we'd probably be quite amused but...) --where do we draw the line? Guys that like oral and vaginal sex are OK but if they like Anal they're freaks? Or if you're into handcuffs that's sick? Already I've excluded some of the memnbers I'm sure, including myself. This is Thailand. Most of us chose to live here or spend time here because of the freedom and live and let live lifestyle and that tone is generally reflected on this forum. I'm not willing to give that up easily.

Sorry to drag this on, but I've been made aware of the fact (on this thread) that crossdressers are usually heterosexual. So sexual orientation/preference doesn't really apply here.
It seems that there has been a breakdown in communication somewhere, I really don't have a problem with gays, lesbians, S&M, Bondage or the like. Hey, it's harmless and whatever turns you on, right.
It's just the though of a fully grown hetero male decked out in womens clothes, wig and make-up that makes me laugh. See Kurt Russell in 'Tango & Cash' to get an idea of what I mean.
But, shit, give me enough time in Bangkok and I'll grow to accept anything I guess.
