Amen. During my last visit, aside from the 2 a.m. closing time for the bars, not much has really changed. Except the exchange rate is better now with the dollar. Last time I had been in LOS 10 years ago, the rate was like 25 bhat to $1 US.
And being that the bars in the States close at 2 a.m. the bar closures in LOS was no real big culture shock. Besides, there's plenty of gals running around to choose from I really wasn't in the mood for a brew anyway. AND, if you make sure you have drinks back at the room you're good to go anyway.

My vote for biggest change in the past 20 years goes to the Expressway System. And in the past 5 years, BTS.

First time in Bangers and a friend of a friend has booked us into Miami Hotel. Lots of roaches running around in the room; only compensation was looking out over the pool and seeing a lot of women being flung in, practically naked. I could get used to this.
Moved to Comfort Inn 45 minutes later. It is in Soi 11/1, just above that hairdressing/massage/happy ending place. Nice rooms at the time, although the building looked like it was about to fall when I passed by it couple of months ago.
Met a sweet sweet girl from Tonys in Soi Cowboy. didnt know the hazards of eating pussy then so spent half the night eating her out...she was out of control! She was about 18 then l but now is happily married. (Enjoy fella!)
Came down early next morning to drop her off, about 6am, and after she'd left, stood on the pavement looking at the traffic which had already started to build up. Was wearing an orange tshirt and white pyjamas, and at that time, had my head shaved like a monk. Obviously, someone noticed.
A couple of thai housewives walked by with their grocery bags and both of them gave me the most respectful 'Wai' I've ever received. After what I'd just done, I didnt think I deserved that, but thanks anyway, ladies!

I agree what a change for the better. When I started coming here in 1990 I stayed on Sukhumvitt and worked in Pathumthani. Time to work 1 hour, time back home was 4 hours, this was during construction of the overheads while at the same time repaving the lower highways..What a mess. Now its 30 minutes each way.
I really liked it when they first open the expressways, the Thai's did not want to pay any money not a car in sight, too bad they wised up.
I could hardly wait for the subway, that will make the MP run from Sukhumvitt to Ratchadapesek a breeze.
