I've always thought a good plan is to bring your wife to Farangland, keep earning Western dollars and then when you hit retirement age the both of you return to Thailand to live a relaxing and pleasant life from your Western pension fund
Should an upgrade be necessary I'm sure it would be easier to administer here than in Farangland
