Read about this neighborhood from Stickman's site.
Any of you boys have any thoughts on taking the train up to this area and checking out the local scene? Seems like there might be some nice quality ladies up in that area and might be a cool off the beaten path experience.
However, Stickman did suggest that one could get oneself jumped by some unsavories...is that a rough neighborhood?
Any good Salon type places where a gentleman can order a tasty cold beverage and have a nice lady holding him and making him feel good?
Any good MP's in the some Thai oriented neighborhoods that won't send the Farang walking like he is the second rate citizen?

Brother TPE will give you a nice insight on this one but I got not good experiences at these places. I look like a local and had a chance to visit these palces long ago. I saw that most of these "karaoke joints" gather very young girls as staff members. Likewise, I saw also that few of these joints are reluctant to admit farangs inside and few managers are really agressive.
Prices are not that bad for drinks and girls. Take away policy seems to be the best way at these joints. The quality of the chicks may vary from bar to bar but I suggest you better look for other joints that are more "farang friendly" in order to avoid problems by messing around with locals that do prefer to keep these joints as STUFF for locals....just my two cents.

Saphan Kwai was a HOT area for farangs, long before Nana, Cowboy, maybe even Patpong. Now, it's pretty much for locals, or at least Thai speakers.
Sutthisan Rd. has/had some go-gos, and to the west Padiphat Rd. has the Iraqi embassy, if you want a REAL thrill! Padiphat Hotel has a small MP, mostly visited by Middle Easterners, where I once found one of the hottest girls I ever took out, bought her sister and her an EXPENSIVE seafood dinner, had her eating out of my hand, took her to the room, etc.,...and never called her again...oh, well...maybe I'll try to find her again...
Or maybe I dreamed all this...
I would rate such adventures as being for advanced punters, but it all depends on you...

I ended up in the Saphan kwai area 2 years ago, because i fell for the old taxi driver scam. He pretty much only knew one hotel. Probably the one that gave him the best comission. It was my first time in BKK ,not counting Khao san road. Anyway i stayed in SK for 1 week. Thinking back, i think 1 or 2 days had been enough.
The go-go bars i went to had this policy that you can only take out the girls for 1,5-3 hours ,depending on the place. So you need a hotel close by. I guess the policy is tailor made for Thai men, cause they have to go home to their wifes later in the evening. There was a few other farangs beside me. I didnīt experience any places where i was not welcome.There was a lot of very beautiful girls there. I didnīt go to any MPīs
I didnīt feel unsafe in the area. But ofcourse ,i didnīt check out the Iraqi embessy. Thats kinky stuff.
I would reccoment that you checked it out for 1 or 2 days just for the experience, if you have a long vacation. If not ,safe it for some other time.

Couple of ST hotels to the north, parallel to the Skytrain...back behind a motorcycle supply shop, if memory serves 
And, I think your guess is good: the ST-only takeout policy is geared toward local Thai customers...
Personally, I find the differences refreshing, and fun - but it's not everyone's cup o' tea.
Might be fun to get a group together and do a little bar tour, some evening when I'm in town...

I am a bit familiar with the area since once I was planning to live somewhere nearby MIDO Hotel. Well, the smallish MP in one of the hotels offered a regular selection of chicks but didn't try.
The GG-bars can be reached if you take a cab through Saphan Kwai junction crossing Paholyothing Av. and heading to Ratchadapisek. Sat few times in few of these "karaoke" joints but just to see underage girls quite often and to be encourage for a "take away" policy. Saw the "hello guys" in the front doors saying NO NO to farangs and stuff like that. Haven't seen riots or fights but a fellow told me that sometimes happen in that area. Lot's of pimps.
Pinga discovered other joints to have fun. There is no need to go that far. Have fun.

Your report sounds somewhat familiar; I think I might have read it on the net somewhere (perhaps this site) if you did in fact post a report on your Saphan Kwai experience.
I might be up for checking it out, but I think I will go the first time for just a couple of hours during the afternoon to get the feel.
I kind of like the Indiana Jones advanture aspect of going of the beaten path. However, I would not like being told to go away by a bunch of Hello Guys because of being a farang. However, that might be an interesting experience; it may make me a more understanding guy if I were to experience decrimination.
Another deterrant would be the underage stuff. I could see some guys trying to f over a farang by setting him up in a bad situation. I wouldn't trust any short-term hotel up there...they might try to shake me down even if the girl is of adquate age.
Speaking of off the beaten path...how about some of the suburban areas of BKK...worth a visit for an interesting experience Thai style?
Some posters have mentioned some good places located between BKK and Pattaya that are oriented toward the wealth Thais in BKK...worth a visit...anyone?
Some poster on WSG mentioned a Galaxy Entertainment place and some place called Happy Home?
Maybe the MP would be an interesting time, though.

when I stay overnight in BKK, most times it's in a hotel that is within walking distance of Suttisan (Saphan Kwai).
went there once or twice on my own and got the regular run-around. I think it's 200 Baht for the fem to sit and talk with you per hour, and you've got to buy them a drink as well.
BF isn't so bad, but you can end up spending 2,000 Baht for ordinary service, and that's if you make a selection quickly and don't go round spending 200 Baht/hour + drinks while shopping round.
Found a real stunner there one night at one of the last clubs East on Suttisan (RCA pub), she was a knockout. The whole figure and face.
I was having such a good time with her in the sack that the condom broke and she nearly ran out of the room after washing out her box and asking questions about any diseases I might have.
too bad, cause I really was ready for a long night with her.
next time round was with a foreign visitor who was mildly impressed. It's probably best to just sit there and make your selection before paying the girls to sit with you, but men being men just need that ego stroke of having a young cutie sitting next to them with their hand between her thighs.
I spent most of the time translating what he was trying to communicate to the BGs, and the music is loud enough to basically eradicate any good chance of communicating w/o hand gestures.
as a summary, I'd say
best you speak Thai before going there, or are really hip to learn
expect a mediocre performance in the bedroom, most of them don't even want to get on top or perform a BJ for more than a minute.
I sort of wish I could hook up with that sweetheart from RCA pub again, but the chances are dim at best.
on another note, I went down the West side of that street in the dark side and found some bars with no one in there besides the owner and a few girls.
got a young lady who said she'd been a schoolteacher who fell on financial bad luck thru her own fault.
she wasn't kidding, tightest box I'd had in ages, and she was really enjoying herself. Said that her box hurt a little too much to go a third round however.
also for you that enjoy boy-on-boy there are heaps of LB / Gay pubs on Pradipat road (West of PahonYothin). Well maybe not heaps, but I accidentally walked into at least two that were within 100 meters of each other.
