like to know other guys input on this one without stereotyping why do some fallangs do the same thing in los as home p4p excluded, eat same food go to english or american bars drink there own local beer have no interest or respect for thai culture, language,cuisine, religion or the whole way of life and then say there in love and want to marry the girl who really they do not know or understand and the only real reason is she has a good body shags well and I can't get a girl like this back home. more over they then want to take the girl to their own country and do the same there, and then wonder duh why did it not work out ? the reason I ask is i'm seeing a guys wife here in uk when i'm here she can speak thai with me go and eat thai food and basiclly have a link to back home, let me know as I said don't mean to stereotype anyone.

I've known guys (rest in peace) that lived here since the Vietnam War who never learned to speak Thai very well at all.
Granted their passive grammar wasn't all that bad, but they could only really pick out the bad words, etc.
Same fellows would also take the drive to FoodLand in Pattaya to buy their goods for cooking, and pay the outrageous prices for things you can get in the market for an exponentially lower price.
One fellow owned several houses in LOS, including in Hua Hin etc., had a ton of money in the bank, and was well respected in the community, especially among his golfing acquaintances & retired military buds.
Another was just a publican who also owned several pieces of land, but he complained about LOS with every waking breath, and was only respected for his kick-ass chili, and ThanksGiving buffet with all the trimmings.
They were always taken aback by my love of Thai food and skill at the language.
and were always telling me that FoodLand had so-and-so if I wanted to drive on to Pattaya and pick it up.
BTW, I met tons of TG, Lao, and Khmer in LA & San Diego who were really oppressed in their marriages and just loved an excuse to get out and part LOS style with their girlie mates.
The men would usually hate this sort of thing and opt out to watch TV at home or maybe even go to a PI or KR run bar with their mates.
Needless to say, this granted my first freebies in FarahngLand with TGs, although I was rather hung up on one single gal who claimed to be Thai, but all the TGs said she was Lao.
Almost all the single gals had a bevvy of FBFs that were sponsoring them there in Cali. Sort of blows your mind doesn't it ??
It was much easier for them to pull this off in San Diego with the military community, as the men were often out to sea or on training ops etc.
but basically, to sum up, the TGs will develop double lives if dropped out there in FarahngLand without any support from hubby with LOS style activities (or even food)

I have a feeling that this more a UK thing than universal and I say that as an englishman. Let's face it when englishman go to Spain they do the same - head off to the nearest 'english pub' and order a chip buttie. Then if you go back to colonial times, the Brits were famous for trying to recreate 'little' Britain in whichever location they were.
The love of TGs - well that's fairly universal...

some of the retired expats I know here worked in Saudi to amass their fortunes, and we all know that they had to create their own community there.
I think it's just left over instincts in some cases that they only hang in the Farahng places etc.
I've seen a few guys who adapt all too well BTW. You can see them walking around with their big-ass Buddha necklace on and wearing a Sarong to go to the market...
Quite comical actually, but they're a huge hit with the locals.

On a recent trip, I had a friend who didn't even last 24 hours in country.
In the 19 hours he was here before heading back to the airport to wait on standby, he spent about 8 hours outside the hotel room. Had brunch which consisted of a sandwich and milkshake at the Landmark bakery and for dinner ordered a steak from the restaurant on the corner of Soi 5. In between brunch and dinner walked along Suk for a few hours.
One could say that he couldn't handle the "culture shock", but considering time in LOS and what he did, one could ask what culture shock??
There are some people that are solely "meat and potato" who are so caught up in the rut of their life they won't glance sideways to see and appreciate what’s around them.
Before leaving to go to LOS, I couldn't even get him interested to learn to say hello/goodbye in thai. This was embarrising at one time as we walked into a shop and the shop assistant said a friendly hello in thai, but he walked right past her.
I was so embarrassed I went up to her, said hello, explained my friend doesn't speak thai and apologised. Of course when I explained to my friend what he had just did, he was indifferent to it.
But I agree with the original poster, why go to another country with a different culture and do the same thing that you would do back home???

I've a feeling that this friend of yours is less of a friend now than ever...
It's too bad he embarassed you that way, but at least you were able to recover from it correctly.
I know people like that, who I would never even think of inviting to LOS.
Unfortunately they would be most of my old peer group back home...!!

Actually he is now an "ex-friend", but not because he wanted to leave....
The reason why we are no longer friends is that I overheard him in his room telling the gf back home that he wanted to leave because I was trying to force him to go places he didn't want to go (ie: gogo bars, beer bars etc).
At that time, we hadn't even gone near any of these places. In fact, he was asking me where he could buy condoms from as his gf had packed his bag. Also had a long discussion explaining what happens in the gogo/bb etc.
We would still be friends if he had simply said he couldn't handle the place and wanted to come home. But instead he chose to get into the good books with her and tell her that he constantly told me he didn't want to go to these places I wanted to take him. We are no longer friends because he is a liar and used me to make him look better in her eyes. Now there is some gf probably going around telling as many people as she knows what a monger I am.
I told him he could do anything he liked, sit in the hotel room all day/night if he wanted, but I was still going to enjoy LOS with or without him. I was far from bending his arm to do anything he didn't want to......
btw - this was his first trip overseas
