He was better known for be the person that closed down Thailand as all fun country and if he had his way he would have stopped all Beer drinking in the country. He was to run for Bkk governor but change his mind (lucky us).

Well...seeing as he didn't stand in the general election some weeks ago, I don't exactly think this is much of an announcement.

But let me ask you this?

What is wrong with a politician hoping to clean up his country? Do you think it is a trophy to be paraded so proudly by a countries leaders?."THE WORLDS BEST BROTHEL"

or should a politician worry about the views of some overseas whoremongers?

There is nothing about the man I particularly disrespect, he was afr more honest and truthful politician than many.

oh...and there'll be more coming along, get used to it,.Thailand needs to be rid of the nightlife as it stands to be taken completely seriously, but I doubt it will happen in our lifetime.

EDIT: One more thing, what effect's did the guy actually have, a few less titties on show, a few hours of lost drinking time?

The Man who closed all the bars.....????????????

I guess you know he wanted actully to close it all. Close Everything down but Thaksin stopped him. No he did not just have a few titles. He was the one that order the raid on QBar making all show passport and take a piss. I like law and order but closing times has nothing to do with this. Singapore has 24/7 and they are light years ahead when it comes to law and order. He had funny ideas and they did not work in a country like Thailand. Maybe you go to sleep at 20.00 but I do not and I do not want one person decide when I should stop having fun.

A strange comment. If you are an elected member of parliament you cannot be a cabinet minister (it is the constitution). Cabinet members must come from either the party list or must be non-elected third parties. Purachai has never been an elected member of parliament.

He was the original founding member of TRT with Thaksin, formerly party secretary general, so historically he has had an enormous influence on policy.

Whether it is really down to Purachai's departure or simply reflects the fact that there is no need to enforce the current laws after the election - there is no doubt that licensing hours are being extended once again for clubs.

Mystique is regularly closing adter 3.00am.
Q Bar often at 2.00am plus.
Various after hours places have either opened or reopened.
Marine 2 (Pattaya) is once again open to 3.00am or 4.00am.
Taipan in Phuket closes nightly at 4.00am (6 months ago at 1.00am)

The other bar shutter in the government - Prachai Maleenont - is still there but he is deputy commerce minister and so hopefully wont interfere.

I asked the police behind the raid on Qbar why they did this stupid thing with people. He just said this guys name that he actully order it himself. He was the moral crusader and the knight to inforce it as well all the time. Even if I am not gay I guess they can take a big breath of air since they are consider not correct according to him. LONG LIVE THE NEW CABINET (at least for a while)

Incidentally his family (wife and kids) have always lived in New Zealand. It is one of the reasons he could introduce the new laws. None of the bar/borthel owners - some of the most powerful people in the country - could get at his family.

Anyways, Thailand's immigration laws are ridiculously relax. You can arrive in this country with a US$100 in your pocket and live here for life. It explains why there are so many 'farang khinnok' here. It is hardly surprising that people are trying to tighten the law - if you were a Thai would you really like to see all those creepy farangs in Pattaya hanging around your country?
