I've noticed discussion comparing the JWM, Sheraton Grande, and Landmark Hotels. Have never stayed at the first one, but have tried both of the other two.

Much preferred the SG for quality, service, staff and privacy afforded. No GF security checks or questions, very helpful checkin and out. Landmark was okay, if you go for one of their bigger corner rooms (did not like the two-room exec suite), but less classy and with some staff attitude. The one thing I really liked about it was the Fitness First gym. I also thought the breakfast buffet was grand, altho not many on this forum seem to hold that opinion.

My question: Does the Sheraton have good gym facilities? I never got to find out, although did use their small pool (not great for a workout). That would decide it for me as far as the next stay goes. BTW, does the JWM also have a good gym built into the room charge?

SG has a reasonable gym. 4 or 5 treads, few bikes and cross trainers, not bad weights. They also offer classes....but mostly the step dancing type of stuff. There used to be a real stunner working there...May I think her name was. Worth going just to watch here, but she was also married! Marriott is better gym imo......more space, more cardio machines and more weights. Also if u want to swim for exercise the Marriott has a better pool than SG. Guests get into the gym for free. Landmark is well known as having the best gym but I never liked the hotel itself.

If want super duper......stay at the SG because it is by far rhe nicest hotel of the 3 and walk 5 minutes to soi 23 and California Wow. It's pricey at 1000 baht a day, but if u are staying a while u can negotiate to about 4000 a month. It has everything including an excellent yoga facility....which is what I go there for.

I fully agree, the Landmark breakfast is both grand and great! Partly serviced, cosmopolitan and in their beautiful classy, Jap like restaurant place... I loved it, and my BG too...

Back to the original question, in my opinion the JWM has the best gym of the lot. It does not have the sheer volume of equipment that Fitness First has, but it has more than enough for the number of members/guests, and it uses brand equipment (LifeFitness, Cybex) versus FF's off brand weight and cardio equipment. Also, the JWM provides unlimited workout and shower towels, and bottled water is out available for the taking. The locker facilities are a serious notch above Fitness First. The pool is suitable for swimming laps if that is your thing. There is a good stretching area at the JWM's gym, something lacking at Fitness First. Finally, I think the staff at the JWM gym is more attentive to keeping things clean, and they are quick to help spot someone if you want it. The FF staff is far more focused on doing personal training sessions (for a fee).

While the SGS is the plushest hotel of the lot, I think its gym is the weakest of the three. It has older equipment crammed into a pretty small space, and the weights (free, machines) are limited. I did not see the locker facilities, so I cannot comment. The pool, as you noted, is quite pretty, but not suitable for laps.

I stayed at the Westin over a year ago, and they had notices that their gym was going to be refurbished. It badly needed it! I have not seen it since, so I cannot comment if the renovations have occurred, or how well they were done.

I usually stay at the JWM because of the gym, and I get a sweet corporate rate.

Hope that helps

I think the Capital Club at the President Park on Soi 24 is a great gym and health club facility. Tons of space, lots of machines, rock climbing wall, pools. If you stay at President Park, you have use of all these facilities. You can see mere here:

The click on "View Property Gallery", there are some pics of the Capital Club,

I agree with rchapstick that the JW Marriott has the best gym out of the three. SGS has the best in-hotel spa (not to be confused with a massage parlor) and better restaurants.

Whilst not strictly on the Suk the Conrad is not a million miles from it and offers a great gym. I am more of a cardio gym user and it meets all my needs. It has lots of good new kit, excellent cardio theatre system, free bottled water etc etc. The changing rooms are also a cut above my (quite swanky) gym in the UK.

The room quality at the Conrad is much higher than the JWM too.

I'm personally a fan of the Conrad line in general, especially since I have Diamond status on Hilton and zilch on Marriott. When in HKG and SIN, I always stay there, and the new one in Bali is also ver nice.

The biggest problem with the Conrad BKK is that there are no BTS stops nearby, so you're forced to cab it all the time. The Sheraton, Westin, and Marriott all have the advantage of being conveniently located near a BTS stop.

I' m quite a fan of the JWM health club. It has all the equipment I need and helpful staff. The only exercize I get in BKK is working out in there and dancing late at night.

Not many cute Thai lassies seem to use the place which is a bore, but I just plug the TV in my ear and watch the BBC or Larry King.

Wel Ploenchit BTS is only about 7 mins walk and there is the shuttle bus. I am not normally a Conrad BKK advocate, but after sampling SIN and HKG (also as a HH DIA) I would say it is the best Conrad in Asia (and one of the better Hilton properties I have ever visited).
