I am going to be visiting Bangkok again soon, but this time I would like to stay in the Sukhumvit area. I want to stay at a plush hotel (I'm not paying), girl friendly of course. Was advised by a friend that the above (Sheraton Grande, Grande Westin and the JW Marriott) are generally considered the best for what I want. He has stayed at all 3 (plus the Landmark I think), most recently at the revamped Westin, which he reckons has the plushest rooms, most helpful staff, and the hottest waitresses around.. and thus now the best choice. Is he right? all opinions welcome. (sorry if this topic has been covered recently, I'm traveling round Oz at the moment and only have access to annoyingly slow dial up)

I stayed at the Westin last month. Great location, girl friendly. I would stay again. I used my hotel points and stayed for free. Next trip I'm booked into my favorite BKK cheap Charley hotel, Majestic Suites.

In terms of quality, there are all comparable. The main difference is location. If you are really into NEP, then Marriott is probably better location, otherwise I prefer the location of the other 2 (across Sukhumvit from each other at Asoke BTS). The one that has the hottest waitresses is pretty much irrelevant, since they are off limits.

IMHO the Sheraton Grande is definitely a step above the other 2 but they are all good. Westin and JW have the best waitresses. Sheraton has the best rooms followed by the Westin's recently renovated ones although the plain wood style looks a little spartan. Sheraton has the nicest pool and brunch. The JW has the nicest breakfast buffet. The only thing that pisses me off about the Westin are the cabs. Every time I would get one who would not use the meter and had to constantly argue with them. Never a problem at the other 2. Only a few more days till I check in at the Westin again. Westin at the start of my trip and the Sheraton at the end. Herodotis

Never use the cabs parked in the Westin driveway. Walk out to the street an get one.

check out the serviced apartments when you get tired of the small hotel rooms. Best one on Suk is the Emporuim Suite. http://www.emporiumsuites.com/

As Mr Allan points out - location is everything. And in terms of loc' you can't beat The Landmark. Nice pool, great gym, amazing staff and the girls love telling their mates they just spent the night at The Landmark and have the free toiletries to prove it ! However, if money were no object then the penthouse 3 bedder at the Emporium is THE place. Only problem is, as soon as they know you are staying at the Emporium - prices go up for everything !

Agreed. WGS, SGS and JWM are all top hotels in Suk area. Of these, I prefer WGS and SGS because of LOCATION, service, staff and hotel rewards program. With the MRTA Asok station now open, I'm sold even more on these 2 hotels, can't beat the 1 minute walk to BTS/MRTA interchange, plus 7-11, KS Pharmacy, multiple ATMs, Robinson, McDonalds right there. Soi Cowboy only a 5-min walk, and Nana one BTS station away. I'm a slave to rewards/loyalty programs, so I try to stay at Sheraton-Westin or Marriott chains whenever possible. When on expense account in BKK I stay at SGS, on my own nickle I stay at WGS. Last month, I booked a standard room at WGS for 100USD (govt rate), but was able to lock-in an Exec Floor room for 124USD at the last minute (breakfast, evening cocktails and business center access incl). Cheers, - B -

I stayed for years and years at the Montien and liked it a lot. Then they took a dive and went down the drains. Very sorry to say that it happened under the reins of a fellow countryman! What a shame..... So JJ had to start the hunt for a new "home". Tried many locations before ending up at the Westin Grande. And now I am "moved in"! It has all I want during my stays. Good rooms, good restaurants - even if I very seldom eat there but it happens when real lazy! The pool is quite ok and they have one of the better gyms in BKK. Good to have an hours excercise which gives you a bit updated physiche -- which you later go out and destroy again! The waitresses are real eye-candy and 3 weeks ago they had a lady in the bar at 7th floor that made me stare like a horny teenager...... that barely happens anymore since I thought most had been seen by these eyes - but this dame was one of her kind! Geezz she was beautiful!! And as noted by others: not to be picked up by bar-flys! But there are worse way to down a brew and at the same time give the olīspecs a bit of gym as well! Look and dream boys! Service from Westin staff among the best I have experienced and since I always fly in very early there could be a problem with early check-in. But not with this place! Location is perfect. I use the BTS a lot and itīs just outside the door. Soi Cowboy can be seen from the room and is a couple of mins walk. I sometime also just take a nice stroll, either to soi 33 or opposite direction to Nana area. Near you are such "must see" locales as Barons or Sazanka or perhaps Darling is your taste? No problem. One stop with BTS or a walk. Sheraton has the same owner (Indian) as Westin and you can cross Suk on a walkers bridge, which is actually kept clean by the hotel, and visit the other big hotel which might be a notch up but not really needed for my needs. Price about the same though - around 150 USD with taxes. Sheraton has a very good italian restaurant you can try out - preferably with a lovley by your side! Do yourself a favour though: make sure she can behave and not start ordering bugs. Also ask her to dress more conservative - no bar look - and you will find service to be good and respectable. Last but not least: Guest friendliness - quite a few persons of the female gender has accompanied JJ to his comfortable room and there has never been anything but a friendly nod from the staff! Just handle it "neat". Like the gentlemen we all are -- right?! So my vote is Westin and my regular room on 17th floor will be occupied again in 5 days by yours truly! Ahh!!! Sweet days to come! Oh - and almost forgot: broadband easy hookup in room which is really useful. Cost 640 b for 24 hrs limitless use.

Ok, thank you Gentleman. Remembered two other bits of info from our fairly drunken conversation last week.. the Marriot has the biggest bathrooms, and the Sheraton the biggest bedrooms, but they look somewhat like his granny had designed them.. dunno if this is true, matter of opinion too I guess. I will go with your advice then Jojje, one more question though if you dont mind.. do all the rooms have adjoining doors to the next one? and if so what's the sound proofing like?
