For me, that is not a good hotel. I think 4 stars is pushing it with that one. There are so many great hotels in Bangkok that are both cheaper and nicer than that one.

For a number of reasons, I need a decent hotel in the Riverside/Silom area for ten days beginning on the 8th Aug. Will be with my Thai gf. If Holiday Inn is not recommended by members here, what other hotels are? Any suggestions?

Hi there, If you really have to be in the silom area you can stay at the shangri-la or Leboa suites (both a bit pricy @150-200/nite avg) or for the financially stressed try Sofitel Silom or Narai Hotels. Sofitel is about 80-100/nite andNarai probably the cheapest @ 50-60/nite. All four are very girl friendly. Remember to register as double occupancy, since most offer you the same rate for single or double. Good luck.

stayed at the Silom H Inn a few years back. I remember the hardest beds Ive ever slept on. Its also an Indian Franchise and gets lots of Seiks staying there etc (nothing wrong with that) so you'll probably be able to get a good deal on a suit. Had TG with me so not sure if friendly or not. H Inn Chit LOm is friendly and right by BTS-2 stops Nana.

I only had a girl stay in for the night once (4 years ago, I think). There was no ID or questioning etc. BUT, her place of work was introduced to me by one of the drivers of the hotel. So I suppose his commission was the reason for the absence of other hassles. [why go through him? Newbies! What can I say! Still am, unfortunately ] I have, however, heard the same advice about the place before from this forum, so it sounds pretty consistent. I was thinking that in Hong Kong everyone is getting in and out of the hotel lobby and no one knows (i suppose) who is a guest and who a visitor. My guests never had a problem there. I wonder if it is really that different in Bangkok but, I suppose, three guests entering the premises would most probably be evident as to their function. After all, in Hong Kong there are Chinese guests all the time, but at least in my limited experience I have not seen too many thais, especially the model type and in threes, patronising that hotel. As I said, however, my experience is extremely limited so I may well be wrong. My stay at the same place during this summer's upcoming visit cannot be changed. And I am thinking of entertaining more than one guests for a few hours. How probable/improbable do you guys think it may be to expect them to just walk in and toward the elevator without getting stopped? Say, if I plan to have a guest overnight (only one), would this be easier to do without the management knowing? Or should I just rent some apartments nearby for a few hours each time? (are there any? In previous posts I recall some friends here said that this is possible--can someone please direct me to the appropriate link for short time hotels/apartments near silom?)

Hi Zorba, As I had mentioned most Bangkok hotels charge the same price for single or double. At the time of check in you can just mention double occupancy without having to give them a second name. Leave that for when your TG will check in with you. This works for me all the time at Shangrila, Dusit Thani and Sheraton. good luck.
